Sidestraps supposed to point forward or backward? Illinois.

They point "AFT" (to the rear)

Now that is something I questioned, I believe in the truck scene ROTLA fords sidestraps are pointing backwards.

Have a look at what i said in another post.

Unless I'm mistaken here they appear to point backwards. I Know he coudl have folded them, but I woudl say there woudl have been more material folded than here - I certainly have a lot of material on my jacket.

Hi,

If that's the case, why do mine point forward???

Just take what's left over and now slip it BACK through and they will face backwards, also they will most likely never slip again. You will have a small loop in the front and they should now face back.

Mine point to the front, and that is why I asked, it doesnt seem right, and they dont fit back through either. I was thinking about taking them and having them reversed. any thoughts? illinois.

Well I agree wholeheartedly - from those pics it seems to me they are the wrong way.

Check this link and the pictures.
The Wested and the FS appear to point forward. Also the picture on the Wested website shows them pointing forward. My FS jacket has them forward. If you think about it and wanted to tighten the jacket while wearing it, it would be logical to be able to reach down and pull the straps forward to tighten. Of course, in actual practice that may not work depending on how tight the d rings hold the straps, but that would be the proper design.

The simple reason, Mr. Davies, that you may have more length to your straps is that Peter made them longer. That's all. When I ordered my last couple Westeds, I asked for them to be shorter so they matched the film once I doubled them up.
I'd say that because Wested AND FS make them the way they are means that's how they were in the film. Peter made them originally and the FS is taken directly from a screen used stunt jacket. I'd say they are how they were supposed to be and they were folded back over as stated.

I appreciate that agent5, but from those pics I don't see any fold in his straps...I wish I knew for sure.

I think it's just really hard to see. The fold itself may look like one of the sliders. I just can't think that if someone has seen and documented an original jacket, plus we have the original jacket maker stating this is the way he did it, it just can't be any other way.

I still can't feed mine through though. Illinois.

You have to push the leather on the strap down closest to the slider and then slowly insert the tip of the strap back through, under the slider, then pull. It should be so tight it'll never move again, unless you wish to do so.

Really really tight fit, but I got it. Illinois

They aren't long enough tucked so i undid them, i am still thinkning about taking them to either a leather shop or tailor to be reversed. Illinois

I guess that's why on my last 3 Westeds I asked for extra strap length so they wouldn't be too short. :D

Let us know how it goes if you decide to take it in.

Do you think, if you requested it, Peter would change the position of the straps? (ie Buckles on opposite side that they are now, so that the straps point backwards).

I would think so, I mean they are custom jackets, so why not? Illinois

Those straps in those screen grabs could just as easily be facing forward. If they were bowing out to the side (away from the jacket), you'd still see them sticking out. It's like an optical illusion. Just use your imagination and try to see them facing forward. Even if they are facing backward, if you can convince yourself, it'll save you a lot of time, money, and heartache.

My straps stick out the same way when I sit down with them for a long time (like driving) and they look like that when they bow backwards.

I guess it also depends which movie you're talking about. On this jacket from Last Crusade the straps appear to clearly point forward.
