I'm probably gonna order an acubra federation from hatsdirect.com but what size should I order, my head measures 22 inches around.

Check the hatsdirect size chart. They have the conversion table. If you are in between sizes it might be better to get one up and use the supplied strips to fit.

What sixe do I order

Post by IndianaWill »

:?: Where you order, ? On line. Most of the Hatters have a sizing guide, or sizing chart..
You might want to check it out..

Hope that helps... 21 3/4 = 6 7/8 22 1/4 = 7 Sounds like your between sizes..

Have a Great Day!!!

Keep in mind that if it's a smidgen big, the sweatband will conform to your head the more you wear it. Of course, if it ends up being way too big, you can exchange it for a different size. HOWEVER, make sure you don't shape the hat. Once you shape it, it's yours! So it's best to try it on right out of the box to see if it fits before you start altering the hat. The Akubra is a good hat, though! Good luck!

If you are in between sizes I would be wary of ordering the larger size. That's what I did and I ended up with a hat that was BIG. Akubras apparently come larger at first as they will shrink to conform to your head.

DO NOT order a size too small. it is too small. always go for the slightly larger size. it will avoid migraines and the hat will fit you perfectly given a bit of time and you can always use a few strips.

Just measure in metric and order that size. That's what I did.

So...some of us are suggesting you order larger and others say smaller!

I am sure Indiana George is thoroughly confused by now. I guess he will have to weigh the pros and cons of the sizes and go with what he thinks is best.

Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Having worn akubras for many years, i can say with all confidence that they do not become larger, they ALWAYS shrink. Go the loose fit, insert the foam strips and likely they will come out within a few months of regular wear. cheers chauvel.

Actually, it'd be best to skip this whole "larger vs. smaller" thing and just get the size that fits in the first place! Before I ordered my Akubra, I called Ron at Hats Direct and told him my concern. He steered me to the hat size I needed. And yes, it did conform to a better fit after a bit of wear.
