What are the CHEAPEST 'screen accurate' items you can get?

i figure the wested jacket and akubra federation hat are the cheapest for the jacket/hat. but what about the other items?

I want to get a bag and strap but im not sure where i should get them from. What is the CHEAPEST leather strap that's avaliable? and what is the cheapest bag avaliable? WPG's bags seem slightly too pricy for what they are including postage ($70 AUS). it would be nice to find a cheaper alterantive especially for the strap.

Well seriously the belts and bag are usually cheaper. I myself have a WPG which I believe is worth the money but I understand the problem your having with that. Unfortunately I don't think you can get a bag cheaper than the WPG. I'd say the TAG straps were the BEST but they shut they're doors. As far as other straps they were all approximately the same price more or less.

To be totally honest, your best bet is to snag other gearheads cast offs. I bought one members WPG bag with TAG strap for 48 shipped. Considering thats a 40 dollar bag with a 20 dollar strap, without two shipping payments, I got a heck of a deal. I see stuff like this all the time in the classifieds.

also just an idea for alternative belt straps - has anyone ever tried converting a belt to a strap? im not sure what the biggest leather belt you can buy though...anyone got any ideas? maybe it'd be possible to attach two belts together? you can get some pretty #### cheap (not hard to find them for $10 AUS here.)

EDIT: just a quick look around the net for belt sizes...seems the largest offered is around 46 inches. not sure if it's possible to get larger. sounds like a good option if the belts were long enough and you could somehow cover up the holes

Isn't there an Australian Co that has nice lookie-like repro bags cheap?

I looked into converting normal belts into a bag strap, by the time you bought 2, figured out how to attach them together, found a buckle and the bolt thingie, filled in the holes you might as well get one from a dealer!

The closest we've gotten on a bag strap that looks 'right' (to some people, me included) is an HK rifle sling from TAPCO (tapco.com). They go from anywhere from $2 to $5, but unfortunately their minimum shipping is $9, and only within the US. They are about 55", though, not 65", but that works for me - I'm about 5'8" (or 9"?) and in fairly good shape. Much taller (or wider) than this, though, you'd probably need a longer strap.

Those web belts are cheap in army/navy surplus stores, I can usually get the tan & brown for $3 or $4 each.

The biggest limitation in your request is 'cheapest' and 'screen accurate'. I won't offer any suggestions outside that set of conditions, but you can get cheaper if you sacrifice screen-accurate somewhat.

Oh, here's something that straddles the line - a MKVI bag is NOT screen accurate nor identical to a MKVII - but it looks the same to anyone who isn't a gear head. Soldier Of Fortune (don't have the web address right here) often sells dirty, musty, beaten MKVI's for #5 (sorry, can't make the neat 'L' thingy here for British Pound) - that's approx $10. Shipping costs from UK not included, but I don't think it was more than another $6-7. I've ordered and cleaned one up for a buddy, and put an HK rifle sling on it, and you have to really look to know it's not the same as my MKVII (if you aren't a gearhead, that is).

EDIT: And I almost forgot to shill for Adam... The Winrich IOAB Whip is pretty screen accurate - right shape, knots, etc. - just made w/ a more economical leather (cowhide vs. roo) and less plaits (strands). I believe they are still selling for about $10/foot. Search on 'IOAB' - you'll get a LOT of hits, all good!

And is it todd that makes the great bag strap, too? someone does, for 20$...

however their straps are way too small like the ones they usually come with. So i'd still be left with the problem of a strap.

The web-belts from beltoulet.com are pretty good. If you go to an army surplus store that sells the brown ones, it would be even cheaper. In fact, if you're in the right area (I tend to find that American Midwesterners have the best luck), you can find ALL of your gear at an army surplus for low prices- the cavalry twill pants, the shirt, belts, and holsters. But seeing as you are from Australia, online might be an only option.

The cheapest good whip is the Winrich IOAB.
For the holster, the cheapest I've seen is the Todd's $20 basic webley holster.

Who has the cheapest screen-accurate gloves?

Well, so far I haven't aquired many of the smaller items like the web belt and gun belt. But the bag strap is easy to make on your own if you're a crafty sort of person or know someone who is. I just got a big piece of cow hide and measured and cut straps out of that. Then dyed them the right shade of brown. The hardest thing was the buckle. I had to find the right type of brass buckle that is the right size and looks the same as the ones in the films. I found it at an antique shop on a carrying case of some kind. I'm not sure if it was much cheaper or not overall, but it gave me something to do and it came out just great

YES! I've done the belt conversion. My bag strap is actually two belts attached together and fitted with a TAG buckle. It looks really good, and it's never failed, even with a pretty heavy load in the bag (camera, couple bottles of water, my glasses....) Drop me a PM with your email address.
