I think most of the shrinking that occurs in cotton clothing is in the dryer. All that dry heat does a number on wet clothing...

Boiling the Clothes is too severe, I don't want to shrink it down to nothing, just a size or two.

I have about 300 Clothes items that my Wife has gotten me in sizes that are too large.

I've got a 80% Cotton/20% Polyester sweatshirt That needs to be shrunk Two sizes. Please help guys I really need to Get this thing to the right size....

Charles,

I have had some cotton blends that have fit my 190 pound frame well. However, after numerous washings (some items in 3 months and some in a year) and drying (on high heat) these polo shirts and sweatshirts have shrunk down to a size that (no kidding) fit my 11 year old's 71 pound frame! Yes, he sometimes actually wears them to school.

So, I would say wash in hot water and dry on high heat. I must admit, however, that I had never heard of boiling clothes until this thread.

I'm curious to know how this works out for you. Let me know.

I.J.

ps--if the shrinking doesn't work for you, you may want to consider giving your items to the poor, at a mission or something. Get a receipt and write it off on your taxes next Spring. Just a suggestion.

I do that all the time. When My family wears out a Piece of clothing, It's patched and Given away.
