Raiders gunbelt screenaccuracy?

Post by IndyK »

Funny how this subject is fooling me all the time. I now have the MBA belt, the TAG belt and a few others. I'm about to order some from other vendors. But from what I've seen theres a great difference in the leather.
If any of the "older" members know anything about screenaccurate gunbelts, please join in.
I see some of the belts offered today as being very fine belts, but the belt I have from MBA is different from everything else I've bought. Its more brown (no dark red orange shade) and it seems like plain, good quality leather. Why is it the belts (and the bagstraps) are so different when all other items are so well described and reproduced?

Cheers

The gunbelts seen on screen are brown to dark brown, depending on lighting and stuff. It would be logical to assume that the late great MBA would have offered the most accurate belts and straps. However, several colour variations have been seen on the on the replica belts. The hardware is also different - mostly because of the limitations of the available buckles and keepers...

Maybe some of the in-house vendors would like to chime in on this too?

Thanks for the input SJ.
Lining up the belts like that is a good idea. I hadn't seen the Kepler belt before but the color looks closer to the MBA than some of the others.

Does anyone have both the MBA and the Kepler and how would they describe the difference?

Cheers

Bottom line here is that none of them are screen accurate, but some are closer than others.
If the NH belts keeper was half the width, he changed the whip holder to a thinner leather in the right color and length, it'd be pretty dead on to me. I like the color of the NH compared to the others I've seen. I changed out the keeper with a perfect one I found at a thrift shop and had a local leather craftsman put on a new whip holder for me.

Basically, in my mind, they all need work, but then again, it's really hard to come by the accurate parts needed to make one.

I bought a TAG belt but had him custom color it (and my hoster and strap) for me. From what I can tell the belt is dark brown, strap is lighter brown/slightly orangeish, and the holster is in betwen. (talking about Raiders observations here BTW) I don't know where the bright orangy holster for Raiders comes from. It's brown.

I think Todd's got the belt tip shape and metal keeper down, but TAG has a good buckle, so mix the parts if you can. :D

I was planning on getting a TAG belt, but unfortunately he has come into so trouble and is no longer offering the goods. A shame! I hope things get better.

I really love the belt buckle that TAG used. It was a bit dull in color and distressed. It looked very good and very authentic to my eye. TAG made excellent stuff.

BINGO! One of my many Indygear riddles. WHY would you make any of the stuff an orangish color when it's brown as brown can be? I'd have to say that if I were to sell these items I'd do whatever it took to make them brown and not a reddish-brown or orange-brown because it's just not right. Although I like my Keppler holster, they were never the right color and I could not figure out when after so many people asked about this he still kept ordering them in the same color. Go figure? Isn't it just a matter of changing the color of the dye being used or am I missing a really big step here somewhere?

this very question has been addressed as regards the Templar range from Indiana Dudley.
we now offer a much darker brown, and yes, it is a different dye I mixed up after the valuable feedback from COW. Keep it coming, please.

So it's basicly because the Kepler holster was like that and people are still using it as a patern instead of watching the movie? *boggle*

Edited for clarity

I still like the holster and did some color modifications to mine. I know that quite a few people expressed their views on the orangeness of the holster but they never did make them a flat brown.
