About to take the plunge!

Greetings all!

I've always liked the jackets Harrison Ford wore in the Indiana Jones films, however I never knew that they were commercially available. Thanks to the power of the Internet, I learned about this interesting forum from the members on the Fedora Lounge! I live in London, so in the near future I will endeavour to take a trip down to Wested and see if they can fit me for a jacket.

I've had too many leather jackets that looked good but didn't last more than a few years (soft leather, lousy quality), so I'd like to order a goat (or horsehide if possible) jacket, made to some of the exacting specs that others have posted on this forum! That is the genius of the Internet in practice - people sharing their knowledge and experience with others...

I am not the most knowledgeable punter when it comes to ROTLA or jackets, but I have put together a list of things I'd like... How are the lads at Wested in dealing with the public and their exacting standards? From what I've read, they certainly seem very patient... I imagine they must be quite busy - the last thing I want to do is show up and cramp their style!

Oh, I think you will be PLEASANTLY PLEASED...Wested appears to be VERY accomodating to customer wishes when it comes to custom modifications.

Since you are there, I highly recommend calling to ask when a good time to get fitted would be, so they have time to handle all your questions.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

P.S. Welcome to COW!

The internet is a wonderful thing - i found out about wested and their jackets by accident. I can't remember how, but i found an article on the age online that mentioned it so i went and had a look. 4 months later i had a jacket!

you're very lucky to live in london when getting a jacket - makes it much cheaper and easier as you'll be able to get fitted perfectly - and if it doesnt fit you dont have to 'send' it back - you can take it back and have it refitted!

welcome to the forums by the way. you'll find everyone here is very friendly and helpful

If you have a chance to visit in person definitly do it! You will be able to get measured exactly in person and see all the different leather hides and see the factory and if you arrange a visit in advance you can try to do it on a day when Peter will be there

Thanks to all for the warm welcome!

My wife had mentioned taking the trip this weekend, so I'll give Wested a ring and see if they'll be around.

Taking the trip to the shop is a nice excuse to get out of London and see the surrounding areas. We just moved here from Ireland a few months ago, so this is all new for us.

I'll let you all know how it goes!

We're in Angel Islington.

I'd drive, but I don't have a car. I sold it when we moved from Ireland. I was tired of driving - I am now at the mercy of mass transit.
