Here are some pics to answer the recent "turn" questions.

Why not? It won't harm the hat in any way.

It's nothing like sandpapering a jacket or sitting on a hat or burying a bag.

I didn't turn my Akubra at first, but then realized it's the only way to get the Raiders' swoop brim.

The funny thing is, Tone, when you turn a hat, sometimes you still put it on straight with the pinch slightly askew. I am guilty of this all of the time. Often, if you look closely in my posted pics, you'll see my hat slightly askew. Watching how many people did the same thing in old movies, I don't feel so badly.

Indy has his askew in a few scenes.

This works in any hat. I even got a DP to respond to the turn - same effect.

Tone, it's easy if you are bashing your own hat, or at least inclined to play w/ the bashes. If you got yours pre-bashed, however, say by Fedora, then I can appreciate not wanting to muck w/ it.

Is it just me or does the bottom (turned) pic look just a bit too exaggerated?
Your avatar looks fantastic, but the sides look too unbalanced in that bottom pic. I like the top pic alot better.

It's funny that you should that, because I love the exaggerated brim so much, that I almost wish I had turned it more. But I feel like it is perfect. Crown, brim, everything.

Tone, whatever makes the hat look right to you. More power to ya'.

I think the turn looks great! The hat really suits you well. (I also think that Gibson in the background looks nice too! If only I could afford one!)

Is the reason that you don't like the turn, because you can't stand something sitting on your head that doesn't feel symetrical? I feel the same way.

I was worried about getting my AB turned as I would not be able to wear a hat if it felt "cockeyed" sitting on my head. Fedora assured me that I would not be able to tell that the AB was turned because the felt would mold itself to my head and it would feel as if it was sitting properly on my head.

I didn't have a lot of faith, as I can feel the slightest imperfection in something that I am wearing. I could not believe it, but it was true. I can't even tell that my AB is turned.

I really think that if I turned any of my other hats, I would not be able to wear them as they would feel twisted on my head.

I noticed that you didn't mention trying to turn an Adventurebilt, just some other hats. If you have a 100% beaver AB, try it on that one. Unbelievable.

That Gibson is one of my babies. It's an SG that I've had for ten years now.

Well I've been wearing my hat the whole time like this! As PJ says, some of the Raiders pics show HF wearing the hat like this too & not understandin what being "turned" truely meant, when I got the hat I figured that's how it should be worn. Whilst I would now like to wear it correctly, unfortunately it has now conformed to my head so much, that if I turn it, it feels most uncomfortable


BTW, PJ, you'll never get the true Raiders look unless you...
