What are considered "Custom" Mods?

Post by Flyer05 »

I'll be ordering my Wested within the next week most likely. I've decided on a TOD in dark brown goat. The last hurdle is getting measured. I've been to three places, and nobody would measure me because either I wasn't considered a customer, or because they didn't want to be responsible for measuring for a garment that they weren't making, even after I assured them they would not be responsible for how it turned out. Very frustrating. I may just have to have a friend measure me since professionals aren't being very helpful at all.

My biggest question is about modifications. Which modifications consitute a "non-returnable", or "un-alterable" jacket? I'm paranoid about asking for anything to be altered for fear that if the jacket doesn't fit properly, I'm stuck with it. But, at the same time, I really want the jacket to be perfect for me. So, which alterations void the exchange policy?

well i think all the things listed on their site are standard and not mods.
i think a custom size is also considered standard. so if you give their measurements and they make a jacket according to them...it'll still be 'standard' and not modded? i could be wrong though.

Just ask Peter before you order, or send them an email. I think it has to be fairly offbeat stuff...I think changing the pocket sizes/placement was such an issue before, but I think I've also heard they just won't do this anymore anyway (?).

As for getting measured, you may be lucky that they won't help...one tailor DID help me, but his numbers were SO whacked I knew something was up. He was either an idiot or was intentionally giving me wrong numbers. Better that they didn't help you at all than do it wrong!

Now...do you have a suitcoat/blazer already? You can use that to get close to your size, and possibly measure elements of that.

Wested is good at what they do - unless there is something unusual about your build, you should be okay just w/ the two or three measurements they request on their website.

Good luck, and keep asking questions - we'll keep answering. ;)

P.S. And WELCOME TO COW! :)

The only mod that I know of that will make it non-returnable are the pockets. Everything else, pretty much, can be altered or exchanged if needed.

Jerry is right. Listen to him, I always do. 8)
