Club Obi Wan

Well my friend, in the imortal words of Squidward, "It has arived!" I couldn't be happier . The color is a nice chocolate brown. The blend makes it quite pliable enough to shape it with out steam. Though I did use some steam to set the shape for good. I used some of Pageys methods, some of Prairies and a bit of the Johnndy method. I had cut the brim to the 2 3/4" x 2 7/8" dimentions. And it's a total pleasure to wear. Ken has put out a fine product out there at a reasonable price. The shaping only took a few minutes of time, and then the fine tuning while watching Inuyasha & Full Metal Alchemest. So here are some offerings. I hope you like the looks of this lid. In some of the pictures it may look like there is a taper, but that is just an optical illusion and the angle of the camera to the hat.

Great Hat Dan, enjoy it. I especially like the last two pictures. The last one is reminiscent of some recent photos I posted, so you know I like that.

This is the second Camptown I have seen. It is always nice to see a new hat. The felt looks thick in the pictures, so it looks like a hardy hat.

One bit of constructive criticism, and may just be the photos, but those dents do not look deep enough or well enough defined. I realize lighting can through it off.

Nice looking hat. Don't worry about the stubble, some around here really seem to like it. Not mentioning any names, Canyon. You should use that last photo as your new avatar.

Does it have the perforated sweatband? When you have worn the hat in warm weather could you post your impression of the sweatband's efficiency?

As was said, it seems to have thickness to it. It should give you years of good service.

The vented sweatband is standard in all the Camptowns. VERY nice to see another Camptown in action!!! I was afraid I was the Lone Ranger! That hat REALLY looks great on you, my friend! It will also soften up with wear and use. I've really enjoyed mine to date.

Very nice! I'm glad to finally be seeing more Camptown pics! I'd still like to see how one pulls of a C-Dent on top, but it looks like a nice fedora. Hey, can you show pics of the inside and the sweatband that's so touted?

Infact looking at those pictures I can actually see you've got it right & where I've gone wrong with bashing/over-pinching my AB & causing some taper

bink, if you go into the vendors announcement section, you'll find the post by JJ regarding ordering info on the Camptown. There are several photos there, and you can see the vented sweatband and lining in one of the inside crown shots.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I have seen some wonderful Fedoras around here and have gotten great inspiration from everyones photos that you have posted. The look I was going for was just a general ROTLA shape, no scene in particular. It has a bit of the Raven Bar, some of the Cairo, and some of the Well of Souls with a dash of the Chachapoyan Temple thrown in.

Hemingway: Thank you for the comments. The dents are pretty defined. But, alas, the lighting foiled the look. I will try to get some outdoor shots this weekend if I can. Maybe that will show off the dents and the bash better.

Feraud & Bink: Like Michaelson said, it does have the ventelated sweatband, and does seem to work when a breeze kicks up or when I'm walking down the street. So, I would have to say it is efficient enough to keep one from cooking ones scalp. I'll see what photos I can get out this weekend of the inside as well.

Bink: Somewhere in one of my threads I had shown off my PB Indy Straw fedora. I had to bash a C crown in that one because the crown height was so tall that a center bash made it look like Abe Lincolns top hat. Here's a couple of shots of that hat with the C crown and a very tight pinch:

Mind you, these are of the PB straw and not a felt but the C crown was a snap to shape nonetheless.


Thanks again for the kind comments. Ken has put something out there for those of us who are monetarily challenged but want some great bang for the buck. Well here it is. It's thick enough to last a long time, and the beaver blend keeps it quite soft. Michaelson had said this will soften even more, and of that I have no doubt.
As far as the stubble goes, that's about four day worth of growth. The Sicilian in me won't let me be clean shaven even when I am. But, I'm sure the ladies do enjoy the scruffy wiskers now and then.

I suspected as much. My recent pics were the same way. Showing off those dents is all about the lighting. I am looking forward to more pics.

DJ, thanks for the extra pics! Actually, I like the look of the PB straw with the C dent better than the Indy bash! And if the Camptown would look as good with the C dent, then I like it! I like it!

Great looking hat!

Bink: Im quite sure the Camptown will take a C crown bash. There is plenty of crown to work with and the felt is soft enough that shaping the crown would be a snap. I think that it would make a jim dandy Bogart Lid as well. We'll see if Ken comes out with his gray offering in the future.
Like I had said before, patience is the key. But, I am quite happy with the center bash. I still have my old wool Indy fedora from 1984, which had a C crown shape. Back then I was to nervous to do anything with the crow for fear of destroying the hat. Now I look at it and it doesn't look half bad with that crown shape.

Hey Spookey! Thank you for the kind comment. Yeah, my left arm got tired holding that camera up for my close-ups. As far as the stud goes, I've had that for about 22 years now. No sence in giving it up now.
