My Adventurebilt Has Landed!
Just in today, my Adventurebilt Venice Pier scene fedora. Wow, what can I say? After having a Miller and a Keppler Indy hat, this is by FAR the best I've ever seen. The beaver felt is perfect and the bash is to die for. Here are a few pics...

In the coming weeks/months I'll be taking this wonderful fedora to Mexico and Peru (where my wife and I will be hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu) and I will post pics!
Many thanks, Fedora, this hat is all that has been said here in the forum and more.

Craig, Awesome! And you know I am waiting on one as well. Great hat.
The only thing I would do is give that brim a little bit more flip. It looks like the sides may have settled a bit in shipping.
That is an easy fix, of course, if you want it to look exactly like that scene.
The front bash is perfect.
Great hat and, if you have a chance, take a picture with it on. Wearing a hat truly animates it and brings out all of the character.
Enjoy it!

Okay, steamed the brim and worked on it a bit. How's this?...

Craig, you are almost there. The sides of that brim need to curl up a bit more. Check that photo of Indy again.
One thing I did to get that look was to put the hat on a shelf so the front of the brim hangs over, then I took two bookends and placed them on either side of the hat until the brim curled up just a bit more than what I was looking for. I left it there for a day or so, picked it up, wore, it, the sides relaxed a bit, and I had the look I wanted.
Great hat, though. You know I love it and can't wait to get my own.
All the best,
HJ
Necessity is the mother of invention! I have done the same exact thing to get my brim to curl..Hemingway Jones wrote:One thing I did to get that look was to put the hat on a shelf so the front of the brim hangs over, then I took two bookends and placed them on either side of the hat until the brim curled up just a bit more than what I was looking for. Thanks, Joe. That looks just like Fedora's block. As far as specs, the crown height is 5 inches. The brim is 2 3/4 at the front and back and 2 1/2 on the sides. It's a size 7 5/8.
So, Hemingway, what's wrong with steam? I thought that's how you blocked fur felt.
Looking at the Todd's site, he has a rabbit for about the same price Fedora has pure beaver. And Todd says you can't wear his hat in the rain. I have no worries about wearing this hat in the rain. After all, beavers spend most of their time swimming in the river!
I'll post some pics of me and the hat on my trip.
Thanks again, guys.

Remember KC, bashing and blocking are two different things. In blocking, you're soaking the hat and placing it on the block to dry. Steam can be used to style, but you have to be careful with it. Steam can also accellerate taper and too much steam can cause instant taper, and sometimes it is impossible to tell when there has been too much. Also, in my humble opinion, nearly anything you would want to do with steam, you could do without it, especially with one of Steve's hats.Kaleponi Craig wrote: So, Hemingway, what's wrong with steam? So, be careful, that's all.

I have bashed three hats. Two Akubras and one AB. The first Akuubra I used steam. Some taper, but not much. The second Akubra I used cold water. Worked well, but the Akubras seemed to need coaxing. The AB needs nothing but your fingers. It is a very supple felt.
In hind-sight, the Akubras could be dry bashed. What really need is patience.

Thanks for the nice comments. Hemingway, the pic was taken on a hill behind my house. I live in Lucas Valley, about 15 miles north of San Francisco and about 2 miles east of George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch. In fact, for a little Indy trivia, the motorcycle chase scene in Last Crusade was filmed in Lucas Valley.
