IT ARRIVED !!!! NOW WITH PICS !!

Hey everyone!!
I promised to get some pictures of my new horsehide jacket out to the group and (somewhat belatedly) here they are. I jumped out and grabbed these before packing it back up and shipping it back to get the sleeves shortened. Right now you can't tell, but this is well over 1" rolled under to get the length right. I tried really hard to get the white balance on my camera right so you could get a pretty good impression of the color of the jacket.
Now the waiting begins again!!

Congratulations, TCartPilot!
Looking forward to the pics.
I've had a lot of leather jackets - never experienced shrinking sleeves
... but I'm sure you'll get more info. on the subject from other COW members - they are very knowledgeable and helpful.

That sounds WAY to long
Should come new to just above your bottom thumb joint when your arm is held straight down. Then when it creases up a bit it would be just past your wrist with your arm straight down.
Send it back for repair/alteration. You've spend alot of good money on a great jacket, to have someone who doesn't know the product, let alone as intimately as
Peter, mess about with it & possibly mess it up!
It's like saying you'd send an
Adventurebilt hat to the local corner hat shop for a re-block, instead of back to
Steve!

Congrats on your horsehide! I am very interested in seeing the difference in hide (if any) between our jackets. Get those pics up
From what I can tell from stories around the forum here, most people do experience the the sleeves going shorter after time and wear. I have not worn mine very much so I can't comment on the hide having any impact, but with my other jackets, this seems to be the case. From your description, it seems you are about 1-1.5" too long. I don't think the natural creep will consume that much length.

My vote is for sending it back to let Wested do the repair.
You can probably find a person around you to do it, but remember, if
you go the local route, and that person messes up the jacket in any way
shape or form, you will NOT be able to return the jacket for either a refund
or an exchange if something else should happen to go wrong with the
jacket in the future!
For example, say the local person shortens your sleeves, but does some
hidden damage to the sleeve lining.
Then, 4 months later, after wearing the jacket, you notice the sleeve
lining starting to rip, or come apart.
Wested will not repair the jacket for free since someone else has altered
their product!!
Go with the Wested repair. It may cost you a few dollars more in
shipping it back to Peter to fix than to have a local guy do it, but
remember, you have a jacket that cost you over $300.00!!
Have the people who made it fix it right, the first time, and keep the
guarantee along with the jacket just incase any unforseen things happen
to it that are not your fault!!
Thats my opinion...

I agree totally with Flathead and others. There's going to be ride up with normal wear, but that will NEVER ride up high enough to do you any good. Contact Wested and arrange return for repair/correction. You'll own that jacket for years....make it right now, and you won't regret it later.

Hi all,
well I was patiently waiting for my wested and hoping it would be here in time for a trip to New York I am taking next week. I saw one of the posts that said their jacket had arrived and noticed they had ordered after me. Hmmmmm?????
So contact Gemma and was advised that it had attempted to be delivered 2 days previously. Hmmmm??????
Went to post office and there it was, sat in a box on the floor. Hmmmmm????
Apparently I owed customs duty on it, $30 paid and now its home, fits perfect and will be coming to New York.

Excellent looking jacket. Congratulations. It looks almost like an authentic lamb to me. It seems that each horsehide Wested looks different and has different color characteristics. I like that one.
Yes, those sleeves are too long. But, I think you should have them just slightly longer than the way you have them rolled up in that first picture. They look like they are about an inch too long without rolling them up.

That's a VERY nice looking jacket. Great leather Peter has used there
Now, in the first picture are those sleeves the actual length as received, or have you rolled them up a bit, I can't tell?
& what colour is that hide? Dark brown or authentic?

IIRC the horse comes only in Dark Brown.

Skippy,
My comments on the length of the sleeves were based on the fact that I thought it appeared that they were about an inch to inch and a half too long and that he had rolled the excess up inside the sleeve. If that is not the case, then I would have to restate my opinion on the length.

Now..That's a great looking jacket. I have a ROTL authentic lamb and a LC lamb. & horsehide will probably be my next I'm thinking it will probably make a better Bikers jacket.

Quite the nice looking jacket. Horsehide to boot. Gotta love that horsehide. We would love to see some pics in action as well. Wear it in good health.
Cheers!

The sleeves are rolled up inside in this pic? Really? 'Cause in this pic the left sleeve (YOUR left) looks about a half inch short to me, and the right one about an inch short. (Possibly the pose, possibly rolled in to different degrees.)
Did you send it back yet? If not, can you take a pic w/ the sleeves all the way out? I'd opt for up to a half inch TOO LONG to make up for the amount of crinkling and wrinkling you'll get in sleeves. It'd be a shame to shorten it too much and then want it back!
But either way, I agree w/ Michaelson, please let Peter do the work. It's his baby, and he'll make it right for you.

You did a good job w/ the pics - thanks for the closeup of the grain, too, that's some excellent leather!

I realize that you're having some issues with the sleeves, but that is one pretty jacket. The color is great. It almost looks like an authentic lamb in color, but there is a definite russet sheen over it, which gives it amazing depth. Great jacket. I hope you clear up the issues soon.
Also, my sleeves are a bit long and I debated getting them fixed, but I actually like it now. It bothers me when I drive and my cuffs are halfway up my forearm.
Best,
HJ

Problem with his is that they'll STILL be over his knuckles when he's driving. No amount of rideup will take care of that amount of length.

But then he could always snap them shut at the end to stay warm in the winter...ooh, no, bad idea...back in the cage...

Yes, that is a little extreme and prefectly understandable. Sometimes, you just have to dig in your heels, bite the bit and send it back.

THAT IS, unless you may be fortunate and have a military base located near you. You'll find a small cottage industry usually located in a town near a base that specializes in sewing uniforms and the like for military personnel. We have one near our town because of the presense of the Arnold Airforce Base. They do repair work on uniforms and leather flight jackets. If you DO have one of those small shops near you, THEY can EASILY shorten your sleeves, as they work on leather flight jackets day in and day out. It will save you the shipping overseas, and your jacket will only be out of hand for a few days. Check your local phone book.
You may have help immediately at hand, and didn't realize it.

Looks great! The hh leather looks very similar to mine. Maybe Peter found a stable source? Anyways, great jacket, and good luck on getting the sleeves fixed.

Michaelson, That is an excellent idea. And I would trust these guys more than some of the custom leatherworkers in cities like mine.

Ok.....so I have taken everyones advise and am shipping the jacket back to Wested to be fixed up. I think that this was what I was going to do all along didn't really want to give the jacket up for that long, but tomorrow or Monday out it goes. As quick as the jacket came to my house after I purchased it, I am hopeful that this won't take too long.
