Did you request two piece gussets?
I heard that their name tag machine broke a few years ago and they didn't repair it or a buy a new one.

Jeff,

You do have to specify two piece gussets or you will get one piece. VP is right, the name tag machine broke and was too costly to repair. Peter no longer offers the nickel zipper, so you probably won't get that request. Everything else looks good.

It is personal preference, but I like the jacket with the regular sleeves, so I did not specify tapered sleeves. I do wish that I would have ordered the extra inch in front. My jacket rides up a bit when it is zippered. It is not that big of a deal as I almost never zip my jacket anyway.

Make sure that you post some pics. I am sure that I will probably get to see it at the QM.

Ah two peice gussets and no name tag.

Ok I have also sent the ok for the brass zip and regular sleeves. Now the nervoius waiting. Did I messure correctly? Did I include everything? it's going to drive me nuts :P

Buffle - the under arm gussets come as one single gusset, unless you ask for the double (Jagger Lips) style. Very good for a fuller range of arm movement IMO 8)

Gobler, nice jacket, not far off from what I'm wearing :)

BTW if you went for satin sleeves to make the jacket easier to slip on, I can say that cotton sleeves are really easy too & obviously the added bonus of authentic as well

Hey Skippy,

That's exactly what I said. It must be my American Southern accent that threw you off.

Well I just updated the list. I also sent Gemma the details and am just waiting for a total cost. I can't remember if they are eight hours PST or EST.

Relax....it will be fine. You will be happy with your order. Don't worry about the zipper either, its quite heavy duty - I was surprised. :D

Right now we are on BST (British Summer Time) That is GMT +1! Probably PDT +7. :)

So if you are gonna call, call early! Before 9am California time would be advised.

I tried both regular sleeves and the tapered, maybe I have thin wrists but the tapered were a better fit and 'ride up' better giving that nice rippled effect on the sleeves. However, if you expect to wear anything thicker than a long sleeved t-shirt under the jacket you might be better with the regular sleeves. YMMV.

Jeff,

I can tell by your measurements that you are shorter and stockier than I am. I would not want my sleeves any tighter than the regular sleeves. I think you will be happy with the regular sleeves.

Take a look at the sleeve on my jacket in my avatar. It has plenty of ripple effect and would you really want a jacket sleeve any tighter than that? I wouldn't.

Granted, mine is Authentic lamb and you got Authentic Goat. I don't know if that would make any difference on the way the sleeve rides up.

Skippy, with someone with a southern accent, you just have to learn to listen s-l-o-w-e-r. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

Thanks for posting your selected options, Jeff.
That is very helpful.
I've been exploring the previous Wested option threads 'deep in the heart of Obi ...' :-
The jury seems to be out on elastic vs. no elastic in the pleats (and it apparently depends on the depth of pleat, & the size of a person's chest/arms, etc.).

Q: Do any of you current Wested owners have a more recent opinion/insight/recommendation on the elastic in the pleats?
Q: Also, it sounds like (from one of the previous posts) that in some cases Peter bases the depth of the pleat on the overall jacket dimensions ...?

Thanks,

Well this is my first Indy jacket from anyone so I'm a tad nervious about the specs. There has been a lot of tinkering in the last few years so I really hope most of the problems have been solved. The list is what I sent so I am praying that all goes well. Should I have mentioned somthing specific reguarding yoak or pleats?? :?

Extra charge

Well on the CC bill the order was processed the total for jacket and pants and there is an additional charge of $17.00 could this be the customs fee?

Or a shipping charge?

No, this is not the customs fees. You will get hit with those only when the
jacket crosses into the U.S. They are not added in at the time the
jacket is made.

What you are seeing could either be Wested's shipping charges, or
perhaps some fee for some of your mods to the jacket. But its most
probably the shipping charge.

You may get lucky and not have to pay any customs fees like some
here have gotten away with, but don't count on it.

Customs charges are based on the declared value of what is in the
package, and then there is sometimes an extra charge on top of that
for the company that actually delivers the package to your house if its
not the post office.

The standard duty on incoming items that get hit by the Customs
department is 6 percent. So, if your jacket has a declared value of
$300.00, then your customs fees will be $18.00, and then the delivery
company will add their take, and that will be what you will have to pay
to get your jacket.

Some people here have not had to pay the customs fees on their jackets,
and some, like me, have got hit with them every time. Its a @#$% shoot,
but it seems that the Customs department is starting to check more of the
packages now.

But what Wested has charged you is not a customs fee. That will come
once the jacket arrives in the U.S.

Wow....I guess I must have been one of the lucky ones. It just showed up on my doorstep, no questions asked. Which is good since the jacket had to go back for a minor alteration. I hope that I don't get the fees tacked on when it comes back the second time around??!!

There are no fees for a jacket sent back for alterations. However, my customs bill came in about 30 days later. It arrived as a separate bill.

TCARTPILOT wrote:Your kidding!! Ok......so what happens if I don't pay the fees?
Good question. I would imagine that there are penalties that go on top and perhaps at some point a custom's agent places a lien on your assets or deducts the owed amount from any federal tax rebate. That is typically how these things work.

Posted: Thu Sep 22, 2005 10:34 am
by Bufflehead Jones
But, it only avoids customs fees if the box is clearly marked that it is being sent back for alterations. That is why Peter gives instructions on how to send a jacket back for alterations.

I believe that any jacket sent back improperly will be refused by Wested because they do not want to incur the customs fees to receive your jacket back.

Well it's suposed to have the free shipping since I bought the big package deal and the mods on the jacket were included in the total. I guess I'll contact Peter & CO.

Stay home everyday and watch the street from the roof. When he arrives each day, let out a battlecry and swing down from a rope to help him carry his stuff, while checking all the addressees and tossing anything that isn't for you over your shoulder. If he's still coming by the end of the week, trust me, he'll bring your package straight to you.

Oh, and next week, you'll have to get a PO Box. ;)

They may not go in order by their number. Differing hides, possible complications from special orders, etc., might have them jockeying. Heck different hides might also make a differencem in timing. Your best bet, nevrwhere, is to contact Wested for an update on yours.

Jeff
Gobler, that is heart rending news!

Have you compared sizes with those you gave them? Where does the bottom of the jacket fall compared with your beltline?

My commiserations mate.

Did you get your trousers at the same time?

Posted: Tue Sep 27, 2005 4:50 pm

It falls about an inch and a half above my belt about where my belly button is. The pants fit perfectly.

Jeff

That is short! :(

You asked for a 24" back what does it measure? How is the fit otherwise? Arms, shoulders?

Posted: Tue Sep 27, 2005 5:15 pm
by Gobler
Well other then the wrong slides and larger collar then requested it fits nice. I did ask for the 80's fit so it's a little snug but I did request that (in future jackets no). This is my first custom made jacket so I should expect a few minor adjustments. Sad part is I was going to wear it this weekend on my camping trip :(

Cheers,
Jeff

PS the very bottom, the pleats just spread wide sort of like an upside-down V like Kens in the shots of him on location. I hope I'm not comming across as a nitpicker.

Posted: Tue Sep 27, 2005 5:24 pm
by Indiana Jerry
If you are just thinking of having the sliders changed out, and the collar possibly taken in, there's no reason you can't wear it camping this weekend. Those mods should be easy to do afterward.

UNLESS - you are planning to send it back ASAP in order to have it fixed and back before Halloween. I'd email AND call Peter TONIGHT if that's the case, to see if he can promise that kind of turn-around time.

J

P.S. A consideration: Yep, if you want the other sliders, that's a definite change. But you might even like the collar once it curls a bit. So if you are just down to changing out the sliders...you might even be able to get that done by someone qualified here in the states, in which case just ask Peter to send you a set. Then you aren't sending it back to the UK for possibly weeks, coming into colder weather, Halloween, and the QM. Trust me, we'll still tell you on the QM how good it looks. ;)

EDIT: Heck, talk to Peter now, he might even be amenable to doing these mods for you next spring, so long as you tell him ASAP. Then you keep it for the season, and send it back to him in the spring - when you don't need it as much and they aren't so busy.

But what about the leangth? It's realy short fitting. Infact let me get a pic to show you.

Posted: Tue Sep 27, 2005 5:33 pm
by Kt Templar
I think it's the wrong jacket, should be below the beltline definately. About 2" I think, just touching the tops of your back trouser pockets (Guys correct me if i am wrong).

Hold it to your nose take a deep deep draft and pack it back in that black Wested bag and send your email off to Gemma. If your time zones co-inside give them a ring, being a factory you might be lucky and get them if you call at 8-8.30 am uk time.

Good luck!

By the way It's 10.30pm right now, you might get an answer but I don't know.... do you take business calls that tome of night?

Gobler wrote:Well other then the wrong slides and larger collar then requested it fits nice.
Ah, based on this I thought you'd decided you were okay w/ the length. Throw some pics up, we'll compare it to screen pics. :)

(Also, go try sitting in the car wearing it. Be prepared to be frustrated, especially when the leather is new and a bit stiff, it should really ride up. It gets better as it breaks in. Point is, is it WAY WAY too short? One reason some people order the TOD length is for this. Me, I'd like it to stay down a bit, but leather under my butt is not a requirement.)

Honestly, it looks too short and too small. :( Maybe you got the wrong jacket?

Posted: Tue Sep 27, 2005 6:50 pm
by Kt Templar
Yeah. it's too small and too short.

For a Raiders the back view looks ok maybe 1/2" too short.

Front - you wear your belt a little low but for your bodyshape the front of the jacket is 2-3 " too short, the sleeves maybe 1-1 1/2" short cos when they ride up they will be really short!

I am starting to be of the opinion that it would help to attach front. side and back snaps of yourself with orders so Wested can see your shape and adjust accordingly.

You have the time difference now, can you stay up to 1.30am to call them?
