Better pictures of my Herbert Johnson!

Here are some pictures of my Herbert Johnson fedora that I reblocked, turned, and rebashed. I turned it two inches. I replaced the ribbon with a vintage black one. I bashed it Cairo style. Its a size: 7 ¼, with a 5 ½ inch crown. The brim is 3 inches front & back and the sides are 2 1/2 inches. The ribbon is 43 mm wide. It still has front and back taper, but it has straight sides. I bought it for $50 dollars.
Here is a picture of what it looked like when I got it.

Why does everybody hate my hat? I think it looks a lot better then some of the hats people think look good.

We don't hate your hat, we hate you. I'M KIDDING!!! I'M KIDDING!!!!! I'M KIDDING!!!!! I'M KIDDING!!!!! I'M KIDDING!!!!! I'M KIDDING!!!!!
The pics are very blurry. I think it's a really good looking hat. It just looks a little old. It has a great bash. Hopefully, many years from now, it will look very old.

Much better pics, thanks.
The front looks pretty good, though a little short in the crown. The side views, however, bring out how short the crown really is. You weren't
kidding about the side view taper!
The ribbon also looks like it's riding up, so trying to bring it down a bit may help.

Yeah, its not stitched to the crown, since it is only temporary.

Did you not iron a break into the brim?
It looks like it slopes quite a bit. Putting a better break in,
would define where the crown starts alot better thus,
making the crown look a bit taller.

Now that's a hat that looks well loved.
Forgive me, but this is actually the first I've heard of the folded sweatband. Does anyone know of an old post that could explain this further?
I didn't find anything while I searched, but I only have a couple minutes to be online.

What do you think?
I really think your technique needs to be refiened. You have a passion to get it right, and that's something that can't be taught.
The folding of the sweatband isn't doing you any good. It's making your taper look even worse.
To be honnest and fair, it doesn't even look like you reblocked that lid. You might have to fix your block or leave the hat body on the block longer, like a week or more.
Don't quit.

I think it looks great from the front. A Raiders hat (from Cairo onward) SHOULD have a less defined transition from the brim to the crown. You did a great job with that. Renderking is right, though abou the folded sweatband. You're correct that Ford's hat had a crease or ridge about half way up the ribbon, but it didn't have the same effect on yours. It just made your whole crown look too wide at the base. It really does need to be reblocked, though, to get rid of the taper you're getting in the profile view. But I wouldn't mess with the brim, it's great. Maybe just get it nice and damp and leave it sitting on the block to adjust the crown.

I'm impressed with the eye for detail you have, all that is needed now is dirt form the streets of Cairo.
Great job.

I don't know are we all looking at the same hat? I think the hat looked like it shrunk aswell as tappered.

Hey Wayne. Looks good from the front and back. Practice makes perfect my friend, so keep on keeping on.
The side shot shows a pretty extreme taper, but you knew that already. You need to save up for a good hat block, and if you need tips, drop me a line. But, you have a good start in learning about these reblocks. Fedora

Wayne,
I don't hate your hat. I think it's very admirable how you continue to play with your hat to get it the way you want it. You remind me of me. Keep up the good work, my friend. I think your hat looks rather neat. Thanks for sharing.
Regards,

Yup, that hat definately has a good SOC thing going on & the lack of defined transition from brim to body is a positive thing for that look IMO
The ribbon looks to wide for my taste, but that may be the effect of the short crown on the look. Try not having the back of your top crease so low (ssem like is been pushed down quite a bit) might help
