'Z' would be Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. An impressive title....

He does not say anything about his hat other than having bought it in California, USA.
"The hat is just a hat," he says. He bought it one day in California, where he was lecturing at UCLA. The first time he wore it he made a major discovery in the Valley of the Golden Mummies, since when it has been a good-luck token.

That thread about Cat Gear is for the birds....

Well he does say it is his LUCKY ARCHAELOLOGY hat. If true, I doubt he'd part with it for any amount of money. I'd wager he'd risk his right arm to grab it before the stone door slab decended. ...But why does he say it's just a hat, then say it's his lucky hat. I think maybe he made up the first day of discovery story. I think maybe he's just an Indy wanna-be, just another gear head. I've owned a couple of those wool jobs. When they are fresh, they look heck-a Indy when you look at yourself in a mirror and aren't aware of the side view.

I think he's a closet gearhead.
