I just got my aldens a little over a week ago and have worn them every day since then. That means I have been wearing them to work too. The past couple days I have been working outside and in the blackberry bushes. I noteced that a couple of stiches had raied up and one of them was partly torn. I didn't want the stiching to come out any further so I got a straight pin and gently pressed the raised stichings back down into there holesthen I got some tacky craft glue and with the stright pin I pushed a dab of it into the hole were the stiches had begun to come out. On the patialy broken stitch I dabbed a little glue on it and slowly pushed the stich back together.

Has any one else incountered this problem with the moc toe stichings? If so how did you stop it from spreading, or did you just ignore it?

Did the blackberry bushes have thorns or anything in them to snag the stitches? Even then, I would call whichever shop you bought them from and let them know. If my pair are any indicator, they should be much tougher than that. I have worn mine practically everyday to work, and mowed the lawn in them, and gone hiking in them, and climbed all manner of stuff in them and the moc toe stitches have not even hinted at loosening. I personally don't think the stitches should be coming out after only a week of wear.

Yes the blackberry bushes did have thorns in them. If any more stiches start lifting I will call aldens immediatly, unfortunaltly I have to leave for college in 2 weeks and my aldens are my only shoes.

hopfully my fix will be all it needed cause it was worring me a bit that the stiches had started liffting but I figured it was my fault due to the thornes on the bushes dragging across the shoes.

Well I just sent Aldens a email inquiring about the situation. So I will see what they have to say about It.

Wow. My Aldens have been through #### and back and I've worn them nearly every day since I got them a year and a half ago. The toe stitching on mine is still perfect, though a bit dirty.... Let us know what Alden says...

: : : come on, really? Only shoes? What were you wearing before, leaves? If they are your only shoes, my (obviously missed) advice would have been to buy six pairs of shoes at 49.99 each! Two pairs of sneakers(one black,one white),two pairs of dress shoes(one black, one brown), and two pairs of 'close enough' boots!

Got the aldens cause my other shoes were worn out to falling apart. I also got them cause they are supposed to be extremly good shoes and I wanted a pair of shoes that will last me a long time so I didn't have to buy more than one pair. Besides that, I do have another pair of shoes, they are a black pair of dockers that I were to church. I just don't think wearing my dockers to work would do cause they wouldn't last to long.

did Alden reply? If not I would give them a call. I plan on getting a pair soon as well.

Sort of, They have an atomated reply right now that says they are not going to reply until the 7th. But since I did the fix I mentioned in the first post not one stiching has come up and neaither have the ones that I fixed. Im not to worried about it since the fix seemed to work so I will wait for there responce vie email. Nobody else has ever seemed to have this problem so I am going to guess that it happend do to the treatment western washington blackberry bushes can give to the shoes :evil:
I will post there responce as soon as I get it.

Don't feel so bad. I wore my Aldens right out of the store and proceeded to scrape them against the curb before I even got to the car! DOH! Now there are so many natural distressing marks on my Aldens you can't even tell which mark is from what. And I'm sure Alden is on vacation until after the holiday. I do know they take a month off every summer, so at least they were nice enough to let you know they're out of the office!

And if you want to take care of your new shoes, I'd recommend some Pecards and a container of "brick" Meltonian shoe polish. They'll keep them looking nice when you need them to look nice!

I've got some Huberd's shoe grease that my grandfather recomended to me. It darkened the boots and seems to be working well for keeping the shoes soft and waterprofe.

Has anyone else used Huberd's?

Did you see your sock through your alden ?

i have a beautiful scratch on one of my alden moc toe and a little leather scrap now but, it's just a pair of shoes, a pair of expensive shoes but a pair of shoes either...

If you want to keep your alden new, don't wear them.

No need to be afraid of. Your shoes are stronger than any others !!!

Yep, the Aldens were meant to be worn. I wear mine every day. I wear them to work, I wear them on adventures. But I also take care of my shoes since they are equally an investment. I let them distress naturally from wear, but I give them a Pecards treatment and a good shine once in a while. Take care of them, they'll take care of you!
