I wonder if one of these hat stretchers could save an indy hat from tapering

A hat stretcher helps maintaining your hat size, but it doesn't prevent the tapering of the crown.

Yeah, Erry ! As I said in another thread use a bowl!!!! On my hat it worked perfect

BTW- The hat on my avatar is that one, before I blocked it.

My hat stretcher kinda did save my hat from taper. The side was getting a little bad, so i stretched my hat a little extra to get the crown to elongate from front to back, making the sides shrink it. This was after a good rain shower, so the hat took this shape when it dried and came out with a boxy Raider's look.

Steve(Fedora) offered to give us contact information from his block supplier. He stated that if you bought a block 1 size smaller than your head size, you could put your hat on the block with the sweat and ribbon in place to maintain the untapered shape of your hat for about $135.

I have the same hat strecher, sold to me by someone else. I tried that theory out and found that since the hat strecher is tapered, it exagerated the problem with my Akubra Deluxe.

I sent the fedora out to be reblocked and then kept it on a coat rack, which does job in keeping the back reblocked.

The hat block that Fedora is offering sounds like a good option. I would also add the one not fool with their lid too much. I assume a lot of bashing and re-bashing will aggravate the taper situation.

Either get the block from Fedora, make one, or send it to him for a reblock. That stretcher won't do anything for the top of the crown.

My coat rack is a free standing wood and brass item used to keep coats on. Or in my case..coat, hat, bag, scarf, etc...

What does the coat rack do on the hat sorry? i didnt get that

I think what R.K is saying (he will correct me if I am wrong) is the coat rack is his preferred way of keeping his reblocked hat in pristine shape. This seems preferable to keeping the hat on a shelf or upside down. Unless my hats are stored way in boxes, I keep my current ones on the rack.

Rack is better than this???

The finger of the coat rack either pushes back on the top of the crown, and preventing it from tapering... Or the whole finger pushes back along the height of the crown.

Either way, it does a great job in keeping a fedora well blocked.

That gadget you had there isn't going to help your fedora from tapering, it might make it worse.

That is how I store my hats that are not in use. I put them in hat boxes, upside down, with moth balls in a closet shelf.

I do not know which is 'better' but your way looks acceptable. Storing it upside down also requires room to lay it out. I do not have the room to keep an everyday hat out like that.

Well they are in my wardrobe on a top "block", i can take them no problem. I dont have space for a rack in my room but i need to find room for it i think because now i have 2 hats... room is going away
