Hey all,

I just ordered a WPG indy shirt from Todd's Costumes. Do any of you have this shirt or know how is stacks up against the other available shirts such as Wested, and how screen accurate it is? Thanks

I hope you added two inches on to your normal sleeve length when you ordered. The sleeves shrink that much at the first washing. I didn't know about the shrinkage factor and the sleeves on the two I ordered are really short now.

J.R., when you wash it, hang dry that shirt. As Flash said, it do shrink. There is a stitched pleat to keep an eye on that is just below the yolk on the back. The stitching may come loose. On the first one I received, I had washed it and put it in the dryer and the shrinkage occured along with the stitched pleat coming loose. The second one I got has been hung to dry and I haven't had any problems. Also, depending on how thick or thin you are you may want to have the sides of the shirt taken in. It has a reverse taper that makes it look like you just came from Omar the tent maker. I'm no light weight and it is too fully cut for even me. Some thing to think about my friend. All in all, it is a fine shirt and Jerry at WPG stands behind his product 100%.

I also have one of the WPG shirts (I bought it through Todd's Costumes). Very good shirt. I was forewarned about sleeve length, so I bought one an inch or two longer than I normally wear in a dress shirt, and that was fine. The shirt IS rather big around the torso, though. I'm normally a 17 - 34/35 in a dress shirt, ordered a 17 - 36, and it's big enough that I'm thinking of taking it to a tailor to have some of the girth removed

I also recently got a Wested shirt, and bought an XL, which is a lot closer to the right size for me.

That said, however, I do like the WPG shirt -- it's a little heavier material.

How does the shirt tail on the WPG version compare to Wested's? The Wested shirt's seems a bit short when compared to any of the others in my closet.

Yes, I agree. The tail of the Wested is noticeably shorter than the tail of the WPG shirt. However, I think the tail on the Wested will probably be long enough -- until I get dragged behind a truck!

Thanks, Randy, that's what I thought. I haven't had any problems with it pulling out, but then I haven't been dragged behind a truck either! (Not like I'm expecting to anytime soon!)

The Wested is screen accurate in that regard, I think. Indy's shirt tail was half hanging out most of the time.

Having collected shirts for 23 years nw, more or less, I have given up to the term of "screen-accuracy". To explain what I mean I have here shot 2 pictures of the same shirts, left to right: LL Bean, WPG and Wested. The light in the first photo is studio-flashlight and the other is daylight in the shade.

The color of the shirts vary a lot depending on the light, and the "neutral" look that I think of when I see the Wested and the WPG in real life disappears totally when photographed with studioflash. The colors in daylight is much more the impression I get from seing the shirts next to each other, the LL Bean being the "warmest" in color of the 3.

So I did the forbidden thing. I made a coloradjusted photo of each shirt, adjusting the color on screen while actually looking at the shirt. Depending on Your monitor colorcalibration (If You beleive You see everything else correct, this should be correct too...) this photo shows the differences in color as I see them next to each other in real life.


I see the WPG shirt with a more "green'ish" shade when comparing it to the others, so the correct color from a description will be "neutral grey" IMO.

As for material and shape I like wearing them all, but each in a different way. Only Wested and WPG can be regarded as Indy-shirts because of the pleats and they both have high qualities. WPG has the most neutral color and seems very durable. The Wested somehow has a beautiful color though being very discrete and the shape of the Wested is by far the one I would go for in terms of the most "Indy'sh" shirt.

5 years ago, when visiting a second hand shop I discovered and bought a shirt that to me was very close to screen-accurate (whithout the pleats that is). Ironically the brand of the shirt was - Mr. Jones. I've never seen it since and dont think it has any Indy-connection but maybe some of You know about it?

I would hazard a guess that it was a custom-made shirt for an Indy fan. I would guess, since it was close to screen accurate, that he requested that name be put into it. That is very interesting.

Thanks also for the color comparison. I think the Wested looks the most screen accurate to me and its color remains the most consistent when the lighting has changed.

How do I get this effect? And when I wash it for the first time, should it be hot or cold water? with detergent?

COLD Water. They have a tendency to shrink. I would also hang it to dry, which should give you the wrinkled look you are going for.

I too just received a WPG shirt and I ordered my neck size which came with a 36 sleeve (I usally take 32/34) Me I'm washing and trying to get it shrink as much as possible. In the sleeve area and as much around the waist as poosible, looks like it's a trip to the tailor. Nice shirt though I think I'll be wearing this one more than my Wested. Less costly and faster to get. I'll reserve my Wested for that special occasion.

I just received my first Wested shirt; I agree that the fit is a LOT tighter than the WPG or the LLB.
I also like the color and texture of the material more, however, based on first impressions, the WPG looks like it will take more of a 'beating.'

Anyone have any reports on how their Wested shirts handle wear?

Well, mine hasn't been through any "adventures," but in the two-three months I've had it I've machine washed it in warm water three times with no shrinkage, seams coming undone or buttons coming loose. As for drying, I simply tossed it in the dryer for a few minutes with no heat to knock out the worst of the wrinkles before putting on a hanger to finish drying. The seams puckered up just a tiny bit. They might do more with some heat, but I don't want to chance any shrinkage.

Overall, it seems to have durability equal to any standard dress shirt.

My kids are getting me the WPG shirt, I believe. What size should I have my wife tell them to buy? I normally wear a 16 1/2 x 34. Do I buy longer sleeves or have we established that hanging it to dry won't allow shrinkage?
I've read the search on this shirt and still can't tell.

Ed, these shirts are rather generous in proportion. I would order your normal size unless you are a large fellow. Extra sleeve length will be made up by the large shoulders. I would not put it in the dryer, but hang it to dry outside on in the bathroom. If you don't wash it in hot water, it should not shrink much.

Hi all,
I just got my WPG shirt and like it very much. I'm used to the wide fit because Ralph Lauren Polo brand shirts are cut that size and those are what I usually wear. The regular fit. Now, Polo makes a slim fit and a military fit which are cut smaller. Which most of you young Indy's will like
I expected the color to be lighter, but all in all I'm happy with the shirt.
I will of course wash it in cold H2O and hang to dry.
I'm "Anile" about my clothing being ironed, so I'll have a crisp shirt.

Nope. LL Bean dress chinos in a light brown. I love those pants. I picked them up for $10 at an LL BEan outlet. I have never seen the color offered for sale.

No worries, but, I must say, it is very difficult to put Westeds to shame. They are incredible pants. I recommmend them highly and enthusiastically.
