I'm not an expert, but

1. Yes, too much water and dirt can destroy your whip.

2. You should let it dry and put some leather care on it.

Welcome to the Forum, Mighty Sith Lord ()

Contact Bernie (Email or PM him) - he'll be happy to explain whip care to you. I use Pecards on my whip (from Bernie).
I have gotten it wet - but try not to get it soaking wet (at least not for long).

In the meantime, try this website to learn more.

Regards,
:D

Make sure to let it dry naturally and try to get your hands on some pecards to treat the whip with once it does dry. But I wouldn't suggest letting it dry in the sun. Lay it out somewhere dark and dry in a loose coil until it dries. Thats what I do but I'm not sure if its good for the whip or not. It seems to work for me fine.
