Does anyone own a Flightsuits Expedition jacket in a 44R off the rack size?
If so, could you please give me the measurement under the arms, between
the two side seams. Flightsuits sizing says that they add extra fabric so the
jacket will fit correctly, but they don't say how much. I would like a close,
but not snug, fit. I do not plan to wear any heavy shirt or sweater under it.
Other jackets I own measure between 24.5" and 27", making the circumference
anywhere from 49" to 54", the larger obviously good for layering clothes underneath. Thanks in advance.

IIRC FLATHEAD said somewhere that Flightsuits adds six inches movement room while Wested adds four.

Well, six inches would make it the same as my Wings VIP, and that fits me
well. A little roomy but not too much. It doesn't feel overly large with just a
regular shirt or t-shirt. 4 inches would probably be more what I'm looking for
but I could live with the six. There is a 44 made to order on the clearance
page, at FS, that has a 53" chest but only a 23" length. It was made as a short torso.
That would be way too roomy and much too short.

I received an email reply from FS but they only referred me to their sizing
chart, which still doesn't tell me what the actual circumference of a 44R
jacket would be.

FS does not usually give out the actual garment measurements of their
jackets. I guess to them its proprietary.

I do know from reading on some of the other forums that pertain to the
WWII style A-2 jackets, that FS puts in about 6 inches of movement room
in their jackets like stated before.

On the A-2 forums, alot of the members go DOWN a size because of the
extra room FS allows in their more modern fit. The folks at the A-2
forums do this to get a more true, WWII style fit in their jackets.

FS is very good with their return policy, and I have know quite a few
people who will order a FS standard size jacket as a "try on" jacket, and
then send it back, with instructions to FS with what alterations would be
needed to get a proper fit.

Because the people are ordering another, more custom made jacket,
FS will not charge any extra fees, like re-stocking fees, for returning
the first, "try-on" jacket.

One fellow in particular on the A-2 forum had gone thru three "try-on"
jackets in the three different chest sizes, in order to find the fit he liked.
He had, in his own words, a nice round belly, so he had to find the jacket
size that fit him correctly, and then, after finding his correct size, had
FS make him a jacket with his sleeve and body lengths.

I know this does not answer your question, but FS is good to work with,
so I would think if you asked them what type of fit you are looking for
they will help you out.
