I'm relatively new to whipcracking, and just found this forum when a friend told me about it.

In real life, I already know midwestwhips, thefish, Canasta, and winrichwhips. They are all wonderful people, & great to work with. I hope I'll be able to meet others through here.

Believe it or not, I (hanging my head in shame!) had never seen any of the Indy movies until last weekend, when I saw Raiders! LOVED it! Now I have the trilogy on DVD, and will watch the other 2 this weekend. I loved all the action in the movie, and of course, the whipcracking!

I just purchased a matching set of whips yesterday, bringing my grand total up to 3. None of them are Indy whips, but I'll get there eventually. I can pretty much do the basics now, and am totally addicted.

as erri said its never too late to become an Indy fan and/or a Gearhead.youve got some pretty sweet looking whips.now all you need is an Adventurebilt and a Wested and your set. enjoy the forum.

Don't let her "new to whip cracking" fool you! She's doin' fine, and can still whip most people's behinds at trick roping!

Who made those whips? The matched set look particularly Terry Jacka-like, but I've seen transition knots like that on Winrich whips as well. They also look like they're already well broken in, and probably roll out nice and smooth, (either that or you've been REALLY busy with them!)

Hey, Dan!!

Yea, Paul & I were talking one day, and he told me about this place. Glad I found it - it looks ALOT more active than our Yahoo group.

The whip in the 1st picture is a Terry Jacka - it started out as a 6', but was modified before I got it, so now it qualifies as a midget at 4'1.

The matching set of whips were designed by John Brady, and made by Russell Schulz. I was in Las Vegas a couple of days ago, and bought them directly from the Western Stage Props office. (That's why the tan falls are so black already - that came from me, Marty & Mark playing with them in the parking lot)!

Oh, you're not kidding, these 2 roll out very nicely (although I have been playing with them ALOT since I got them home). They should be very good for target work also. They are pretty light weight, which should come in very handy for the 2-handed routine. I'm glad I got them - I've gotten alot better with the Terry Jacka, but because of the modifications, it's kind of off balance and not as easy to use.

Too bad I won't see you in Texas - you didn't really get to see me do too much when we were in Ohio because of my injury, but I should be able to do more now. But that just means I'll be ready for your camera next year!!

Oh, btw, don't let Gery see you posting....he'll get on 'ya for slacking off on the DVD editing! LOL!

Hi IT-g ~ No, I won't be in Texas for that event, although it does sound incredibly cool!

I'll be there in mid-September for a Wild West Arts Club convention, just outside of Dallas.

Wow I didn't know about that. Is that in Cleburne? When in September?

Nice whips! I myself have a pair of Schultz bullwhips and I really like them; he certainly makes a world-class whip.

I hope you have fun in Texas. I'm going to be in Sioux Falls, SD, for the Spirit of the West Festival that weekend. I understand that Robert Dante is making some arrangements that weekend to make it easier for anyone who wants to attempt the minute speed cracking record.

You should give that a shot Adam. Your attempt at Annie Oakley was pretty impressive. If you hadn't been throwing around that 22' beast earlier, and that longer, (10'? What was it?) during the parade, I think you could have given Chris a serious run for his money.

Adam, I also think you'd have a great shot at breaking Chris' record. When you attempted it at Annie Oakley Days, I counted 216, but as I told you afterwords, I know I missed about 5 or 6 in there. And Lee counted you at 225! Definetely give it a shot & let us know how it goes.

Out of curiosity, how is Robert making it easier? I thought there were very specific rules about the whip (length, size of the fall, etc).

Oh, getting the whip and doing the cracking is the easy part. It's jumping through all the Guinness hoops that is hard. You gotta get the attempt on tape, assemble witnesses, get letters from witnesses, have two counters, and then fill out all the fxxxgxn' papper work. Dante is making it easier by doing all the hoop-jumping for anyone who has a successful attempt.
