WPG repro rip - EDIT: Satisfied Customer!

I just got my WPG repro. I agonized alot over whether to get a repro or one of the originals, and finally decided that since I wanted to use the heck out of the bag, I'd get the repro and not worry about it being fragile.

Only, I looked at it today, and at the top of the seam which runs down the middle of the back, the stiching has come loose, and there is a whole in the canvas.

Has anyone else seen something like this? I figure my options are as follows:
1. Send it back to WPG and ask him to send me another repro, and have him check it first to make sure that it's ok
2. Have him send me an original, and ask him to check to make sure that the one he gives me is sturdy and in good shape
3. Just fix it myself, and consider it to be par for the course.

I had wanted to distress the repro, and now I'm worried that it won't hold up. Any advice from you experts, for a novice with his first peice of gear?

UPDATE: Jerry sent me an original, in gorgeous condition. I've cleaned it, taken off the webbing strap, and attached a TAG strap (raiders). Perfect!

I agree with Pagey. I haev done business with Jerry and he backs everything he sells. I would ask him if you could exchange it with an original. He seems quite obliging. :D

I agree with the others! I recently got an original and it had a problem (a small hole). I notified Jerry and he sent me another....it was a great looking bag and looks like it will hold up for a long time. I think you would be more satisfied with an original.

Have a great day!

I also agree with Pagey that my Original seems much tougher than my repro. (as long as there is no dry rot on the original)

I've carried both, and though I favor the original, unfortunately when they decide to 'go', they go in a big way. I had one start a pin hole from an age spot that within days became a complete blowout, and short of applying an iron on type patch, there was no way to save it.

I've carried the WPG bag for almost 4 years now, and no problems at all to date. If I ever do, it's a LOT less expensive to replace than an original. Regards! Michaelson

Yep, I agree send it back. Jerry at WPG is a great guy to do busines with. I've ordered gear from him for a few years now. (Mostly WWII British) He does his best to keep his customers very well pleased.

However, inform him about the problem before you send it back so he knows to expect the return.
