Remember those Red Wing 8249's

Hey Folks: Remember those Red wing (Real world Alternative) Close enoughs? You know the one's for some strange reason you couldn't get in the States. Well...I found a pair on Ebay and think they may have more :D . Take a look....

As my J. Crew's aren't really for work at the airport, these Indyesque workers ought to do the job on and off the field.

What do you think?

A great score! 45 bucks is incredible!
They may be 'seconds' but I doubt there will be a major flaw with them. The problem is probably cosmetic. I would not worry on it.

Hi Guys: I knew they were factory seconds and am taking a bit of a chance but when I priced the same boots up here in Canuckistan, My Scotish blood took control   . I'll make a report when they get in just to let you know.

The only bad part was the shipping   Yipes, It came out to be another 26 US. Yet, even so they still come in way below what it would cost normally.

After talking to a Shoe/Boot distributor at a sports show, I've come to learn that if you get a quality boot like Red Wing, your more likely to be happy "Even if its a second".

Anyway...As soon as their in, I'll fill everyone in.

I've been watching those 8249 auctions for a size 10.5 or 11 and have only seen one. I went out of town and missed the whole thing. Those would be the perfect boot for me as I need steel toes at work. So if any of you have that size for sale, let me know or maybe keep an eye out for me on the 'bay?

No Problem Zeus: I have this style built into my favourites on Ebay.ca. I'll keep an eye out. You might even want to drop the seller a query. They seem to have a few things in stock.

Otherwise, what width would you want? I had to jump at these because of the EEE size. I have Weird feet and don't find too many EEE's that are both comfortable and will allow a good wool sock.

Please do give us some feedback. The price is still a bargain with the $26.00 shipping.

Great Boots Kilgour! I wouldn't worry about the 2nds, I used to work in the garment business and it was usually something very minor. Keep us posted on how they perform too.

Have a great day!

Yeah. On seconds, a lot of times you have a hard time finding what made it a second in the first place.

Hey there Kilgour!

Yea, I had done the EXACT same thing....I kept checking *-bay every week until I FINALLY saw my size pop up in the #8249's
:D .

However, my seller never listed them as "seconds." They could be "seconds," but they were never listed as such...But even if they are, I can't find anything wrong with them whatsoever...they are in perfect condition, well made and have the steel-toe. I wish that these boots are easier to get ahold of, lol, for I love these boots and would love to own two pairs of these boots! I think I paid only $50 for mine, and it sounds like you got a great deal on yours also!

Take care & wear them in great health!
Kind Regards,
Captain D

No Problem Tone...I took everything you said as being in my interest and I honestly and sincerely appreciate your concern. Because..you're absolutely right, in these circumstances it is still "buyer beware" :-k . You rely on the seller having some integrity and honesty. Fortunately, Ebay does have a means of dealing with less than scrupulous characters.

BTW...Just want to say, that as someone who's been here for a couple of years but doesn't say too much (though don't ask Binkmeister his opinion on this), your participation in the forum has been terrific. You've brought a lot to our community.

Warm Regards
Kilgour Trout

P.s. Hey Captain...So, are you saying you "did" finally get a pair? If you did, is there any chance of seeing a pic my friend? Hope all is well.

But I'll be glad to give it anyway... Those are some fine looking boots, Rob! I hope they work out well for you.

Hey there Kilgour, it's great chatting with you again!

Yea, everything is good over here and hope all is well on your end as well! :D

I received my RedWing #8249 boots about a month ago, size 10 1/2 from e-bay as well. I kept going back and outbidding other folks, lol,...until I got em'

I honestly wish that I could post some pics because, not only would I like to post pics of my RedWing #8249 boots, but I also got a lot of other new gear I would like to share with everyone here COW. But, unfortunately, I am unable to post them...

But, by looking at your weblink that you provided of your boots, I can say that mine look just like em.' Congrats on your new boots and enjoy the heck outta them my friend!

Kind Regards,
Captain D

for a 10.5 I'd take a EEE wide, for a size 11 a D would work, all because of the steel toe factor.

I did email the vendor and he did not have anything over size 10 as of this time.

Hey there Zeus36,

Did you try "workshoeoutlet"? That is where I received my #8249 boots from...

Kind Regards,
Captain D

Well...I got'em!

Well...I got'em! My 8249's just showed up and I've got them on. The fit is good and the EEE's will work well with a pair of work socks. I'm quite satisfied with the colour (a brown brick colour) and with the look (has a rugged Indy flavour to it) :D Not to mention the price...$54.00 US. So..all is well in the world.

The only flaw I can see is the slightly off center stitching on the left boot. But honestly, you don't really notice it at all...and Frankly it gives them some instant character. Once they break in, they'll be an excellent Real world Indy work boot for use at the Airport.

I'm going to take some pics soon to show.

Kilgour Trout

I just won the 10.5 EEE 8249 boots on the 'BAY site. Paid a little more that I wanted to, but it's only $$ !!

They are supposed to be here in five days, but I will be in Albuquerque for the next two weeks. (wish I would have gotten them before our deployment to the desert, that would have broken them in nicely)
Won't be able to rate 'em til I get back.

  For the fun of it, I'm going to do exactly that tonight!!
I'm just not sure where I'm going to find the Bare Butt Hovi to give me the motivation? If I do find them, it could be rather difficult to explain to Airport Management

We really need to ask Scandi, how he does it...he's a ramp manager and probably has more ways and means to get his co-workers to co-operate eh!

All I can say is...Thanks goodness, Indy Summits don't include re-inactments!!
"OK, OK...Now your turn to be the Bare Butt Hovi! :whip:

P.s. Thanks Canyon...I think Toni is just having a bad day!

Mine are getting distressed nicely at work, just a bit more hydraulic fluid and some JP-8 jet fuel on 'em and they will be sweet!
I'm even kicking stuff to scuff them up. My co-workers thing I'm mad or something :)

There's a Red Wing store down the road from where I work. Those shoes usually go for around $300 (or upper 200's) there, so knockin' a zero off is quite a score! I figure at that price I may as well get Aldens tho'.

Posted: Tue Sep 13, 2005 4:33 pm

The biggest problem I had w/ RedWings was that all the coolest styles - the most Indy-looking - are only available in the UK. It isn't just the 8249. The salesclerk said she deals w/ that a lot - RedWings just won't carry them in the US for some reason.

As far as US-available boots, there isn't much left in the RedWings arsenal that looks right...

The 1905 (Centennial style) looks GREAT in person, aside from the crepe sole (bleah). Re-soling w/ the lug tread can be done for $90, but then you're up to $300 US again - why not just buy Aldens?

I ended up picking up the 202 - red/oxford finish, already wearing in great. YES, they have a minor bit of the padded cuff at the top, but it's real slight and ALWAYS hidden under my pants. But this reddish finish wears down easily, so the color is coming out really cool...

...and an accidentally dosing w/ cement dust from last weekend didn't hurt. Really, Michaelson, it wasn't INTENTIONAL... ;)
