Wested 40 long...

Anyone here have a Wested 40 Long. I am thinking of getting a (Raiders) and I have a 41.5 inch chest, 32 inch waist.. but am looking for the '80s fit. Considering getting long because I definately don't want the sleeves to be too short or ride up too far when arms are extended and I kind of like the longer length of the ToD. The shoulder length (for the 40Long) on Wested's site says 6.65 ... what is that in US figures? I'm concerned that if I order long though the straps will be positioned too low..think that would be the case? If anyone here has a 40 Long I'd like to see pictures of it on you and maybe get your personal measurments to compare them with my own. TIA!

I have size 40, too and I I prefer longer jackets. So I went with a Wested ToD (with some personal modifications).
I'm 181 cm big (yeah, I konw, that's not "big"
) and the jackte fits well.
So think about a ToD, it's quite the same like a longer Raiders.

Doug asked me for some pictures of me in the longer ToD-Version.
After I send him the link, I thought: Why not post it in this thread also, just to show the pictures to other interested persons.

Doug C,
I agree with IndyJens. I ordered a ToD just because I don't prefer the short waisted Raiders look in a jacket. I am extremely pleased with mine as are most all Wested owners.
Enjoy,

Yeah, it looks like I'm leaning more towrds the ToD jacket..those pics are great, thanks! The only real deciscion I need to make is this: Should I order a 42R(ToD) or.. 40 'Long'(Raiders)? [chest measures 41.5]..I really don't want my sleeves to be short after the jacket is well broken in. The ToD jacket in 40L has sleeves that measure 25.25 and my measurement is 25 even. The 42R sleeves only measure 24.75 which I think would be too short. I thought that if I get the Long and the length was too much then I could toss it in the drier (low heat) after a good soaking, and draw it up a bit. Or I could just explain all this to Peter. Like everyone else, I'd hate to have to send it back to be altered.

Hey Doug,
About a year ago I was in the same boat as you; debating over which jacket to order. Don't pay too much attention to the chart on Wested's website. I've heard Peter say before that it is not entirely accurate. You can specify the sleeve length that you want. Just measure from the edge of your shoulder down to the first nuckle of your thumb. So really the only difference in the Raiders and ToD jacket is the length of the body.
I ended up ordering the ToD jacket. I'm tall and was worried about getting a jacket too short. I gave my chest and sleeve measurements and Wested gave me the perfect ToD jacket. Personally, I find the longer ToD length to be a bit more modern than the shorter Raiders style.
The best thing to do is to place your order over the phone and talk things out with Peter.

J Weaver, that's sounds like good advice. I never though my arms were especially long but I had my wife measure me last night and from the edge of the shoulder to my first thumb nuckle measured 27"
. The only jacket measurment with an arm length that long is something like a 48long on Wested's chart.

I ordered 27" sleeves, and I wear a 46L.
How tall are you?
Really, don't worry about trying to match yourself up with the chart. Its pretty far off IMO. As an example the back length of my ToD Wested is 26.25" not the 27.5" like the chart says.
So take the measurements and give those #'s to Peter.
P.S. A good rule of thumb for chest size is to order the size you wear in a suit. Or if you want room for a sweater or a little room to "grow" then order a size up.

I agree with
J Weaver, call
Peter & discuss
I am 5'7" tall (so short!) weigh (then!) 12 stone (so I'm carrying about 2 stone extra weight
) & have about a 40" chest.
Peter fitted my jacket himself at the workshop & my measurements came out:
Chest = 40"
Back = 25"
Sleeve = 24"
The sleeves are perfect & I by no means have long arms. The length is a good contemporary length for general wear (ends at the top of my jean pockets) but is more
ToD than
Raiders, so for a
Raiders for me I would need an extra inch off the bottom.
Greatest problem I found was the comfort of the back seam across my back
With the 40" (bearing in mind I tried on a 40" jacket at the time of measuring) when I put my arms forward, the seam was tight across my back & worried me. I ended up commissioning a new jacket with a 42" chest, which
Peter cut with a 40" chest fitting to the bottom, so it was a trim fit. Bearing in mind this only gave me an extra 1/2" in back seam length, that was enough to make it more comfortable
Still ended up taking the 40" chest original jacket away with me on holiday, because the double under arm gussets (Jagger Lips) which I had put in that jacket, but not the 42", gave me a better range of arm movement for horse riding
I your case I wouldn't go for a 40" chest jacket if your a 41.5" chest
Definately ring
Peter & discuss if you can't visit
