Here's a link to a pic of a new 20-plait bullwhip that I made this past weekend. It's a ten-footer with a 12-inch handle done in natural, red, with three-tone knots.

I'm not quite sure how much I should try to sell it for, but I hope to get some opinions at Annie Oakley Days in Greenville, Ohio, this weekend. There's going to be a WWAC convention that I'll be attending with Chris 'Canasta' Camp and Paul 'P-diddy' Nolan.

Ive only ever made one 12 footer, and that was really
stressfull. Every second felt like a day.

It didn't take as long as I thought it would. I started it on Saturday morning and finished it on Sunday night, with a total time of 15-16 hours. I really wanted to make a 24-plait whip, but I think I'll try making another 20-plait whip before I tackle that.

I didn't get too stressed out. I also tried to keep myself a little distracted by watching 'Himalaya' with Michael Palin while plaiting the overlay.

That's a beautiful whip Adam, unbelievably good in fact. I'm guessing you could probably ask any price within reason - or something resembling reason. Great series that, Himalaya with Michael Palin, great whip and great taste.

That's a darn fine looking whip, Adam, and I guess I'll see it in person this weekend at Annie Oakley.

Ya can't miss me. I'm the red-haired guy, (unless I'm wearing my Akubra Fed Deluxe,) with the big Buck-Rogers-Lookin' camera on my shoulder!

It's only about a 3 hour trip for me, so I'm going in on Thursday to help Gery and Kirk get set up. Then, I'll be videotaping festivities all weekend, as well as whip-cracking and gun-spinning.

Have a very safe trip to the Buckeye state, and see ya when you get here!

Yeah VP, I couldn't get it to work with Apple Safari, or Firefox, but Exploiter opened it right up.

It was worth sullying my hands to see that whip!

MARC: The advantage of more plaits is that the whipmaker can charge more $

Really, the higher the number of plaits, the more supple and fluid the whip will be. Plaits count is one of the key contributors to how the whip rolls out, potentially making it more accurate, more elegant-looking, and easier to crack.

The downside is the higher the plait number, the thinner the laces have to be cut, which means that individual laces, (being thinner,) are more delicate, amd more likely to break.

The happy medium for most Australian styled bullwhips, is 12 or 16 plait, (Indy's was 12.) But plait counts of 64 and upwards of 80 to >100 plait counts are posssible on fancy show/display whips, and heavy-use work whips used by cattlemen and drovers tend to be 4-8 plaits for durability.

Most of the folks I know; Gearheads, whip performers, hobbyists, and enthusiasts, and myself included, tend to use 12 plait whips.

If a Adam, Paul, or any other whip maker out there wants to clarify, correct, or add to what I've said, by all means! Please!

Adam, That is a beautiful bullwhip, you are quite the craftsmen. Have a good time at the W.W.A.C. Ohio convention this weekend. I had planned to attend this year, but had to cancel. It’s only a few hours south of me, so hopefully I can make it in 2006. Let us know how it went when you folks get back.

Well, I had a chance this weekend to crack that very whip, (very lightly, as it was just immaculate, and I didn't want to have to buy it. Well, OK I did WANT to, but I really don't have the cash right now. Did pick up a nifty 8', 12 plait cowhide from Adam, however, and it rolls out about as nice as any new cowhide whip I've ever worked with! Anyway.)

It's even prettier in person, and once whoever the lucky buyer is who takes it home gets it broken in, it will be quite the show whip!

And thanks for a nifty new Indy whip, (pics and review to come soon, when I get my digital still camera back from the missus--who is snapping pictures with it about halfway around the globe from me right now--and I make some headway on this getting this video edited. I have to agree with Dan - I was also in Ohio when Adam brought that whip along, and if it's possible, it's even more beautiful when you see it in front of you!

Adam, I know I told you this when I first saw it, but I have to tell you again - you did an AWESOME job on it, and someday when I have money to spare again, don't be surprised to be getting an order (or 2) from me!
