Info on Wested Trouser Purchase & Alterations

Post by T.E. Lawrence »

I recently purchased the newer Wested trousers and had the pocket Flaps altered to look more like Indy's - Someone asked me about this in another thread so I thought I'd pass on the info I have gathered from mistakes I made when buying my original run of the lighter trousers. Hope the following is useful...

"Re: Material for the flap - When I bought the trousers from Peter at Wested I ordered them one size larger and asked for the longest Unhemed pair he had. Since I was actualy at his shop at the time He let me pick the ones I wanted. When I got home I washed them in HOT water and dried them --- UNHEMED -- this gave them all the shrinkage the would need and got rid of the pressed seem. THEN I took them to a local tailor along with pictures of what I wanted and had them remove the oriinal flaps and replace them with new ones. While I was there I picked out a couple buttons that I liked and had those replaced as well. I asked that they leave as much material as possible for the hem so I could have a large (INVISABLE STITCH) hem to help weight the trousers and make them hang more to my liking..
If you really wan to do this and keep as much material as possible for the hem them I recomend that you ask them to make the underside of the flap out of a heave PREWASHED cotten this will allow them to cut less material from the trousers.
LAST NOTE: Make sure when they make your flaps that they use some kind of facing inside (LIKE THE ORIGINALS) so the flaps dont curl on you."[/i]
