Wool hat? The Indy logo on it? Used in the tank scene? From a friend of a friend?

Come on. Someone needs to close this guy down.

Thats hilarious I needed a good laugh

In most cases the ebay link wont be posted becauses it increases the price of an item. In this case they felt sorry for the guy incase it drove the price DOWN.. ..Thats absaloutly terrible i, I really have to laugh at the 6 people who think its real and are actually now bidding on on it.

Not only shoudl the links be not allowed here, but it seems to me that posting a thread letting people know about a certain auction while it's in progess is just the same as adding the link anyways. It provides the same results and can cause a nightmare for anyone wanting to place a bid.
Please don't do this in the future or at least wait UNTIL THE AUCTION IS OVER, which is a site rule of many other sites and makes perfect sense.

I wont disagree with You but one could easily come up with arguments for the opposite in order to seek information about items You're bidding on.
I will, off course, respect the COW-rules and remember this one about links.

Both excellent arguments. This 'no link' was about the only 'middle ground' we could come up with. At least you can't just click on a link and be taken directly to an ongoing auction, where in the other situation you have to do a search to find the mentioned item, and there's no telling which ebay it's on. In this case, I'll only say it wasn't the U.S. version, so this is a good case in point.

Thank you. However, you could always pm the experts on the subject of whatever auction you're interested in instead of publically asking and letting everyone know. Not only can it drive the price up of that particular auction but it can also alter the future prices of certain items, not in every situation, but some. Something else to think about.

I think we need to apply the surcomstances to an auction because in all due respect what respecting club obi wan member would believe this tripe and place a bid on this so called 'last crusade hat'. :x ..........This type of auction in my mind can only be thought of to be a joke......Now if it was an AB it would be a different story.

You know, I did a search on ebay and found a ton of "Indiana Jones" hats, many advertising them as "The Original" or "Replicas". One claimed that Dorfman Pacific made the original hats Harrison Ford wore in the first film. Another tried to argue that their "crushable" hats were made for the films, so that the stuntmen wouldn't harm the originals (doesn't actually say it was used). It's really pretty amusing. I remember someone posting a picture on COW not too long ago of a black leather hat (looked like a rainhat) advertising it as such.

Caveat Emptor!

Avaitor, sometimes folks collect odd ball stuff, knowing full WELL the item is totally wrong. I have been known to do that myself.

As an example.....The biggest 'miss' I have had was a Raiders idol that someone actually carved from wood, and really did a good job....only problem was he had no idea what the idol represented...the God of Fertility. If you'll notice between the idols legs is the head of a man...this was supposed to represent and explain mankind emerging into the world. The carving this fellow carved had the head in the right place, but in the back there was a small pair of shoes sticking out from underneath her behind. It appeared the goddess was sitting on a small man!!! I missed getting the idol by 2 minutes! He only wanted $25. I contacted him offline, and he raised the price to $50! I'd pay $25 for the oddity, but not $50.

So, you see, as trashy and as totally WRONG as an item can be, you can have collectors of those items FOR that particular reason, and having those auctions spotlighted can cause problems, COW members or not.

Here is my take...

This is a quote from an "Indy" Fedora on Ebay:
Word on the street is - "The crushable fedora was invented for the Indiana Jones films." It was used in all those action scenes. The script mentions Indy's amazing indestructable hat in several places. This is how they did it. The perfect accessory to bring out the Indiana Jones in you. In fact, it is made by the Dorfmann Pacific company, the very hat maker that made the hat Harrison Ford wore in the original Indiana Jones film. Remember the opening scene where the female assassin appears? I know the actress personally and can get her to vouch for what I say here.
What in the world is this guy talking about? Female Assasin? Did I miss this version of the film?

As you know, there are a lot of other hats on Ebay claiming to be the "real" thing and we ALL know they aren't...but should we make a big deal?

I personally think we should let these people be suckered. Ya, I know it's mean, but that is what makes my AB fedoras awesome! If everyone had the "real" hat, then I may as well go back to wearing punk rawk pins on my jacket, and my dickies pants around my knees.

I like to think of these hats as red herrings that keep the magic of a custom made one. You know what I'm sayin.

Who ever the seller is he has to know better. But its the buyers responsibility to do a little research.

Well, there you GO then. It's from the Indy movie that had that female assassin in the beginning, and not from one of the trilogy WE always talk about around here. :-k   Regards! Michaelson
