It's not "Irish Poplin" but it's a silk tie you can get in black that's pretty cheap! Thought I'd pass it along:

I own an Irish Poplin and trust me, you can't tell the difference when comparing it to any flat black tie. What really makes the difference is how it's knotted. The style of the times was rather short as compared to how we wear ties today.

What knot do you use with your linen tie? I've never gotten any knot to look good except the double Windsor, which only looks good with a silk tie. Any thicker material, like linen, and I get a Jack Tripper-sized knot. The big knot goes great with my powder blue leisure suit with contrasting stitching and white shoes, but other than that....

Personally, I like the Wal-Mart ties. They sell a simple black tie that has often been mistaken for a NH tie when I wear it.

LOL! And if your shirt collar is any less than 4 inches wide and under your coat, better go with a clip-on!

Thanks for the info on that, Falstaff! I've always wondered about that.

It's not really the knot as so much as it's the length of the tie. Today we usually wear the tie so that the end comes down to our belt, but Indy and others from that time usually wore their ties so that it came to the middle of their stomaches. It looks short by todays standards, but that was deffinately the style then. Just look at the military fashions of the day.

I ordered one of the black cotton ties from the "Lost Battallions" website, which was mentioned in a discussion about Irish poplin ties earlier this month. It arrived today and mighty fine it is.

I use the tie I wore with my winter service blue uniform in the Navy. ...the whole thing was actually black, but they call it blue. It's almost a perfect match for the LC tie.
