I was wondering how tightly other Indy jacket owners keep the side straps on their jackets. I keep my Wested's side straps pulled all the way, I dunno if it's a good idea or not, but I think it looks good .

I keep it pretty loose. Somewhere in the middle.

I go midway, as if pulled all the way it causes the action pleat and vent to gap at the top, and causes excess stress on the attachments for the strap as well. The strap is supposed to keep the bottom from gapping, and not all that much for adjustment of size. It's used that way, but a lot have been torn by that use. Regards. Michaelson

I think that this jacket looks best wide open. To get that look, I need to pull the straps fairly tight ( I would say all the way) as well as fold the zippered edges over about 3".

I have received a lot of compliments on this jacket. Yesterday, a salesman for my company (who is an impeccable dresser) complimented the jacket and asked where I got it. I told him "Wested Leather in England" trying to be as generic as possible at first, but he liked it so much he had a million questions. I spilled the beans and as a result he will most likely be buying a jacket soon. He said he can tell it is a high-quality jacket - and who has better fashion sense than an inmpeccably-dressed salesman?

I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out whether or not to pull the side straps all the way. As I look at Indy in Raiders, he has his straps pulled tight....the same in ToD too. Part 2 of my frustration is if the straps are pulled all the way, what the #### to do with the dangling straps?!?!?! What did Indy do?!?!?!?! I was pondering all this as I was looking at my jacket in the mirror and I noticed that the side straps were sticking out. What do I do??? I am open to any suggestions.

or.... dunno cut the extra parts. thats if you want it
at a permanent length

Well, on the main page there is a suggestion to tuck any excess strap into the hand warmer slits.

I keep mine pretty much like they were when it came out of the bag. I like the "square" look, and I have had no problems with my action pleats staying open. Hope this helps...

Mine are in the center. I don't like them tight since too much sticks out, and if they are lose, they come undone. It's all perference.

You fold the excess back thru the buckle until the point of the strap is underneath. The strap used to mount next to the pocket so it was convenient for some to tuck the excess strap in the pocket, but I never cared for that method. I have the strap tightened about half way so there's not enough extra to fool with anyway.

As many of you know, I've had Indydawg's deerskin Expedition for a few weeks now. It used to belong to West. Somehow (guys, please chime in) the side straps are beautifully and meticulously folded over to the point where they literally just hang there, vertically. In dangling there, they flop around. I think it may have to do with the skin since, despite its toughness, it is so buttery soft that the leather straps just "droop."

I folded the straps on my seal chrome goat back through the buckle and that was okay. When I undid it after a few months, there were folds in the straps b/c they were so stiff. The vertically laid straps on the deerskin drape much better than the ones that were on my seal chrome goat that were so stiff they just sat there, sticking out to the side. I read in one of these threads recently that leather can be ironed (at our own risk!!) if there is a piece of cloth between the iron plate and the leather. I have never tried this. I just can't find the link to it.

i keep mine on my wested lamb pulled all the way(since it's cut a bit larger than i wanted, so no stress is put on the attachtments). i dont have any stress put on them, even when the its zipped
