I am thinking of buying a new whip. I love the way it looks but the thing is this whip is 20Ft and I can barely crack a 6Ft whip. So Im thinking that a 20Ft whip is way to long fo me but if I do buy it do you think it is possible to cut it down to like 10Ft?

What sort of whip is your 20 footer? If it is an older whip made in the United States it may have some collector value.

Things to consider when shortening whips are that you decrease the value substantially and just cutting off the whip and putting on a new fall will make for a whip with almost no taper, making it difficult to crack.

If you could send me a pic of it I might be able to give better advice. If you do send a pic, please send it to my AOL address.

There's always several whips like the one in your pic available on Ebay at about any given time in several lengths. 20 footers usually go for around $40 and you could probably pick up a 10 footer like that for $30.

As far as I can tell, these whips aren't really designed for sport cracking and you will probably have a difficult time trying to learn to crack one of them, no matter if it's 20 ft or 2 ft. If you want something to hang on the wall that has lots of coils, I think that 20 footer is the ticket.

However, if you want to learn to crack whips, I would recommend spending a little extra and buying a whip made for use, such as the Indy-on-a-Budget bullwhip.

Please take my advice and don't buy it. I had a an 18 footer just like it only it was brown and white. It's made in Mexico and it was a piece of junk. I'll bet you the guy's name your buying it from is Tony and he lives in south Texas near Brownsville. He goes across the border to Mexico and buys those things for nothing and them sells them on Ebay. Trust me, I know because I made the mistake of buying one like it. Save your money and get yourself a IOAB whip from Adam Winrich. They are of the best quality and the price is very resonable. Please, PLEASE, don't buy that piece of Mexican trash. I guarantee you will regret it. Take a look at Adams website and talk with him about making you a whip. He will be glad to explain everything you need to know.

Best regards

Jay

Yeah, I have one of those two. A decent stand in. Kind of hard to crack though. Mine was actually a 12 plait 8' same color. I cut off that crazy wrist strap though. I just got a new 8' Paul Nolan a few days ago though and it's awsome! I'll post a new thread later.
