Tell me about the Wested Indy Pants

I'm interested in any information or opinions folks might have on the Wested Indy pants.
How tough are they? How heavy are they? Are they better suited for colder climates?
I've seen mention in the forums that they are hard to hem. However, I would have a professional tailor do the hemming (and have him do the measurements while I'm wearing my Aldens . . .)
How "true to size" are they around the waist? That is, if I wear waist size "X" can I safely order the same size in the Westeds? Has anyone had to have them altered (other than hemming) after receiving them? Any challenges there?
Any other comments, thoughts, opinions? All would be welcome.
Randy

Just search around the forum. There's probably about 20 different topics discussing these pants, and if you go back enough, you can find the original reviews for them when they were first released several months ago.

Indeed, there are a lot of reviews out there. But in short -I think Wested has done a great job cut- and drapewise. The thing that still could be improved is the shape of the pocket flaps, and the location of the belt holders, but all in all I think they are the best seen around today. The cav. twill fabric does a lot for how they appear, pretty accurate in my eyes.
And they are not harder to hem than any other pants, in my opinion.

IMHO, they're the next best thing to Noel Howard pants. But, yes, all the info you're asking about is in past posts in incredible detail.

That's correct, which makes them even more rare.

He was on his way for a comeback, though nothing happened and we are still waiting for a reply I think.

A few months ago, there were rumours about a comeback of sorts for Noel. Some of the board members e-mailed him, promises were made that Indy stuff would once again be available. So far, nothing... and nothing has been heard from Mr. Howard since. [EDIT - ...or what Swindy said.]
About the Wested pants... they're a good match to the MBA ones:
(OK, so this is basically an invitation to start another "color war" thread, but IMO they do match up nicely.)

Pics won't do any good here unless you have them sidexside and take them together in the same frame, but the Wested and NH's are incredibly similar in color.

I hear you... at least those two pics are taken with the same camera, on the same occasion, same lighting (Peter's place, btw).

Quality comes with a price tag... the MBA pants were $150 - $240, depending if you chose "off the peg" or hand made...

I received my Wested Pants a couple months ago, and although wool they are reasonably comfortable in all but the hottest weather IMO. I really enjoy them but probably will not use them outdoors again until this fall.

I find $80 quite reasonable for them.
I've searched for a lot of the info, but I can't find the answer to this question. How tough are the Wested pants? Are they the type of pants you want to wear in heavy underbrush and rough terrain or are they more like dress pants?

They are dress pants and won't take too much abuse. Cavalry twills is a military wool fabric from the beginning and it is sturdier that thin cotton blends, but eventually, any serious trekking would take its toll... Just look at what Indy's pants look like in ToD!
In a world where everyone wore suits, it was natural to use a pair of old dress pants as work gear. Military clothing was admittedly more made for heavy duty, but wasn't used in any larger scale by civilians - today nobody would react to a guy wearing high tech Gore-tex and rip-stop gear or BDU pants.

I'm sure you've seen it, but here's a cross-reference for comparison. Check the price of these babies(!)
