Well i just ordered my jacket online...and now im a bit nervous!
Got the tailor measurements all done yesterday
im getting:

ToD Jacket
Authentic Brown Goatskin
Cotton body/satin sleeves lining
Xbox stitching

however im still not 100% sure about the size. i ordered a size 40 but then i put in the special requests that if they dont think a size 40 would fit based on my measurement (which was about 40.16 inches) then make a size 41 or 42. but it should fit shouyldnt it? I dont want it too baggy but i dont want it to be a wet suit! hehe.

Also, i did not specify a jacket length. The height should give a good length anyway should it not?the tailor measured 29 inches but it seems way too long to me (im 168cm tall..)? so i just left that up to them.

Now the wait begins! This is the first item i've ever ordered from the internet. The first piece of clothing i've bought that i haven't tried on. It's fairly nerve racking!

I'm rather tall and needed some extra length added to mine to feel comfortable, but you should be alright with what Wested decides for you I think.

the only question i have is...would you advice i treat it with something first? if so...with what?
i know pecards seems to be the big thing around here...but it wont be easy to come by in australia and id prefer to use something that i can actually get easily.

What do you use? pecards? hehe

oh also...how shiny was it when you got it/how shiny is it still?
have you distressed it?

don't be so nervous. I ordered my Wested two weeks or so ago. It is also one of the first clothing I ordered on the internet. Wested has great experience with what they do. And if you get the jacket and are not satisfied you can send it back and they will change it for you for free (you only have to pay the postage).

I'll get an Authentic Brown Lamskin, Raiders Style. Can't wait to get, see, smell, wear it. And maybe even to sleep in it...

I'm also interested in care for the jacket: I'm not going to distress the jacket myself, I'll have mother nature to do this for me. So is there anything good available in Germany?

It was rather shiny when I got it.

The shine went away after a bit of wear and rain though, and some spinns in the dryer on no heat reduced it further with some softening up going on aswell...
THIS is after a couple of months of wear, and the following shots is of some minor distressing along the edges and seams;

The current look of the jacket can be seen in THIS thread here on COW.

I treated the jacket pretty quickly after I got it, which really wasn't necessary I think. Treating it will help softening it up further after 1-2 months of wear though when you start noticing some of the "dryer" spots that can use some dressing. (Usually the sleeves.) I don't use Pecard, mainly because it is hard to come by in Sweden. Instead I use a leather dressing made by Rapide which I think works great with goat and it is easy to apply. (I contacted the distributor in Sweden of the product line and this was the recommendation for goat that I got.)

So... Yeah, it was a bit shiny to begin with, but it will gradually fade with wear, and you can help it along the way by putting your jacket inside a pillow case and spinn it in a dryer on no-heat setting, later treating it with some dressing.

Must be a very popular jacket, as I also own a ToD authentic brown goat.

You will be very happy with it, promised! The goat is a great and durable leather. As Swindy said the "shiny effect" will go after a few wear.

Pan: I wear my jacket every day (since more than 2 years). No speacial treatment, just a little bit of "Lederfett" (you can get in every supermarket) now and then ...

I feel with you, Pandora. I ordered my Wested on June 29th. Can't wait to get it, really!!

I'm wondering how shiny my jacket is when getting it. But with a little sandpaper I'll correct that easily

Jens, I always thought you own the dark brown version?? IN all those pics from the summit your jacket looks darker than Jan's authentic brown lamb for example?!

I also thought, it might be a little dark, then I recieved it.
I asked someone at Wested (can't remember who) and they confirmed it was the "authentic brown". Maybe the colour depends on the kind of leather (lamb vs. goat) and / or the leather in stock.

Plus: Jan's jacket was distressed, wasn't it?

I have just received my new Wested with exactly the same specs as yours! It is amazing, you won't believe how nice this jacket is. Wested forgot to put in the Xbox stitches in mine though. I know you will Love your new Indy jacket.

I couldn't believe how fast it was. I had heard horror stories about long waits, that's why I ordered mine in the summer. The quality and service are both top notch. Again congratulations on the fine choice and don't forget pics when it gets here!

Definetely there will be pictures. I feel i owe all of you some after the countless posts and pictures ive seen on these forums. They've all helped alot and it'll be my turn to give something back and help others in their choices too =)

I also have a ToD authentic brown goat. I can only second what the other goat owners have said. However, I will go out on a limb and say that Wested's goat skin has changed for the better. I ordered mine last August, during a goat shortage. I didn't get my jacket until November. But what I got was a jacket that absolutely shocked me. I was expecting a jacket that was stiff and shiny, but thats not what I got. My jacket was soft right out of the box and I never found it to be too shiny. But like Swindiana said, rain is one of the best ways to break in the goat skin. The rain help the leather to relax and mold to you body. It also helps to take away the shine.

Tom, I think you were right. I checked my old E-Mail-correspondence (Yes, I have mails that are 2 years old! I really need to clean up my mailbox. ). Original I wanted the "authentic brown", but it was out of stock, so I took the "dark brown" (which looks awesome, too!).

Basically, until you're satisfied.
I think mine was in there for a total of about 2-2.5 hours on a couple of occasions, but I've heard of some of our "pioneers" letting their jackets go way longer. Just try it out for 40 minutes or so, and you'll see and feel the change. At first you're a bit worried it will harm the jacket, but it doesn't. It just speeds up the 'wearing in process'. My opinion, so take it for what it's worth. Don't forget zipping up.

No. The pillow case protects the leather from any residue left on your dryer drum left from dryer sheets. It only helps loosen up the stiff leather. This procedure was pioneered by _ and Lee Keppler quite a while ago. As was said above...NO HEAT!! Regards! Michaelson

Nope, the authentic brown is authentic brown. In some light it looks near black, and others it looks quite light. Its really interesting how light effect how something looks.

Man that's crazy. Do you have one indoors? Does it look like everyone elses when you get a "close up" of it? (kind of milk chocolatey brown)

Sorry, but I don't have any indoors or close up pics. I don't have a digital camera, so all my pics have been taken in the field.

But I don't think that my jacket is any different than anyone else's jacket. I'd say that the true color is somewhere between what you see in the two pics. I think that this pic is fairly close to how the jacket appear most of the time.

Anyway you can see in different lighting the jacket appeard quite different as well. Indoors, just looking at it you'd swear it's black, especially next to my motorcycle jacket. Take it outside and the brown tones pop out. Go figure.

Hmm...light? I've heard most people describe the horsehide as heavy. I guess its a just perception.
