touching the tops of the ears?

I've been platying around with my new fedora and have a question. When worn properly on the head, should the brim of the hat touch the tops of your ears at all? when I place the hat in what I feel is the most confortable position the brim on each side lightly touches my ears.
Is there any "one way" to wear this hat? Or better yet, is there a way NOT to wear the hat?

I don't think that there is any particular way to wear a hat. I say just wear it where its comfortable.
On a side note I tend to wear my hat higher on my head, about 1/2" or so above my ears. Similar to how Ford wears his hat.
pusahing it down too hard

Yes. I think I've been pushing it too low on my head. But I wear ball caps almost every day and I have to get out of ball cap mode when I wear this.

I used to wear my hat just touching the tops of my ears. It felt better that way because of how the back of my head is this would push out the bashes in my hat. i changed the way I wear it now ( solved the bash problem). Took me a little bit of getting used to this.

I don't think you can possibly generalise. Not everybody's ears are placed the same on their head and not everybody has the same height of forehead. If it's comfortable and looks OK to you - then it's fine.
pagey, I agree with you, I was just telling how and why I changed wearing my hat.

When you need to start worrying , is when the top of your ears are touching the top-- OF THE CROWN!
have a nice day.

I agree, if its comfortable to you and you like the way it looks I say go with it.

I've seen people wearing theirs and their ears are curling down! That is going too far. Short of that, indulge yourself.
I have a habit of wearing mine so far back on my head that it nearly falls off. Other times, usually when I am in the wind, I pull it down lower than the normal light resting place a wee bit above my Dumbo's.

The only caution I've ever read about (and try to practice) is to not let the inside of the crown rest on top of your head. This would make sense if only to keep one's hair style from being flattened. That not being a factor for me
, the dead air space created by keeping it clear of the top would also seem to keep the head cooler.
Otherwise, as long as the sweatband fits snugly enough (without causing discomfort) to make the hat feel secure on your head, what all the others have said seems like good advice to me.
Cheers!

I wear my hat approx. 1/2" from the top of my ears. Sometimes a little higher or lower depending on heat and wind. I do think wearing a hat touching the ears is probably too low.
I have noticed the younger kids wearing their baseball caps right on top of their ears. I cannot express how silly this looks! Was it "Gabby" _ who used to wear the cowboy hat in films pulled low like that for comic effect?
