HELP!

Hi, i am a teenage Indy fan and I am trying to make a Indy Costume for my Fan Film, yet the one item i have not yet got is an Indy Fendora. Either they are too expensive or can only be cheaply bought in the USA!

Currently i am using this plastic light brown hat. Can anyone suggest where i can purcase an Indy hat in the UK fairly cheaply?

Regards
Luke

what do you consider cheap? $ amount would be helpfull.

If you can afford $100 you could go for a Fed. Since they're made in Australia, I imagine the shipping to the UK would be the same as shipping to the US. If you can afford $135, an AB rabbit would be an option as well. :junior: -IJ

Since you're looking Indy hats... you might try Adventurebilt or Hats Direct and bash your own. They arn't cheap though. But they are less expensive then other brands.

I'm sorry to say that, but I'm afraid you won't get an "Indy" looking Fedora for that price.
Maybe you can try ebay or Second Hand shops ...

Maybe you are lucky and find a hat that is looking somehow like the indy-hat (ebay like jens said, C&A and shops like that) but you won't get a screen-accurate hat for cheap.

You have to decide: do you want a hat that looks like THE hat? that's expensive. You can you live with a cheap version? experts will always see that it's a wrong hat.

You can always get Disney "Dorfman" fedora, which DOES get the job done - especially if your not looking for 'screen accurate'.

Look on Ebay and type in something like "Indiana Jones hat" and you'll see a lot of other nice Indy-type feds. Unfortunally, actual fedoras like Akubras, Adventurebuilts, Peter Bro's, etc. don't come 'cheap'. I was lucky enough to recieve both of my feds free, and I am fully grateful.

If you can find an old fashioned gents outfitters you can probably get a looki-likey for £20-25. You know the type with dusty wood panelling and the plastic sheeting in the window to stop the ancient window display from fading. Or a charity shop for maybe £5-£10, will be worn in too!

then I think his best bet would be the federation that renderkingfisk suggested ( the best bang for your buck in that price bang. 45 dollars more and you could get a rabbit Adventurebilt , like my man j-weaver has ( very nice hat indeed).

Lukmas,

Well, I want to help. What I can do is get a Jaxon Iconoclast for you with my 30% employee discount, and then mail it to you, and it ought to come out to a little less than $50.00 US. If 50 pounds UK is $90.00 US, then the Iconoclast at around $50.00 US shipped will be cheaper than what you want to spend in UK money. (Sorry, don't know how to make the L pound sign)

Shoot me a PM if you're interested, and we can work out some sort of deal.

Do you have links to these places?

Ok Lukmas, here's what I can do for you.

All Jaxon Iconoclasts have been marked down to $48.00 US in my store. After taxes and my employee discount, the hat ends up coming out to $36.20 USD, which is about 20.82 uk pounds. After shipping, which I don't see as being more than $10.00 USD, the total should come out to $46.20 USD, which is about 26.57 uk pounds. If that's what you use.

Give me your head size in inches (IE: 7 3/4) if you want to go ahead and do this, and I will get you a hat asap.

Don't forget to account for the difference in sizing between here and the UK.

Lukmas,

I would go ahead and go with Striders offer, I believe with a little reshaping you could have a passable fedora for very cheap.

Strider,

Its great the way you jumped in there and offered help so quickly. No wonder I am enjoying this new hobby. The people are top notch!

LOL these are the old-school guys who haven't even heard of the net :).

Believe me they do exist in the UK at least, holding out against rampant commercialism and the chain store.... but admittedly a dying breed.

Tend to be in the little shoping parades in satellite towns and seaside towns, almost a time warp. I can almost hear the ticking grandfather clock and the see the dusty sunlight filtering therought the windows! ;).

I bought a very nice grey fed like hat in the mid eighties from a shop like this for £12 in my Back to the Future phase  but it did the job. Motorcycle jackets have a completely different connotation now!

For general info, I can get the Dorfman Pacific hat too, but we don't carry the wool felt version, only the fur felt variety. That will be a little more expensive, though. Those are like, 98$ USD here, and after discount and taxes, it will be like 70 something dollars, plus a 10-20$ USD shipping tag to the UK will make it come out to almost exactly what you want to spend, to a little more than that, for a hat that is functionally equivalent to the Jaxon.

Whichever you want, if you want.

Not real good in my opionion. Crown is much too short and the ribon is the wrong color. Looks like fairly poor wool too. You'd be much better off taking Striders generous offer. You'd have a much better and more authentic hat than this one.

yeah im with IndyDoc.that hat on ebay doesnt look anything like a Indy hat.go with Striders offer.that hat looks great for the price.

I am kind of confused about American Inches? In England 7 inches is about 18 cm! Can anyone give me a link to a converter!

Thank you Strider for your kind offer i will definately consider it

That is hat sizing, not inches.

I worked out the sizing thing on the Village Hat shop Website! lol

Does anyone know if the following hat is crushable:

I am thinking of looking for a similar one from ebay

That's the same one you can get out Disneyland, complete with a teardrop crown bash. I would not recommend crushing it. Dorfman did/does make a crushable wool version but it's @#$%. I have one and it looks very little like an Indy hat. If I were you, I'd go with Strider's offer...he's a good guy you can trust him. Or go to hatsdirect and get the Federation if you're trying to stay at $100 or less. What size do you wear if you don't mind me asking?

22 1/2 Inch head so that is between 7 1/8 and 7 1/4. (Thanks for posting the Converter link!) I'm glad you guys and gals are able to give me such useful information, based on experince, to help me to find the best Indy Fedora!

Its off topic, but I thought the British people still used the imperial system even though they "officially" are under the SI. :-k

Older people still like their feet n inches. But officially metric is the legal tender since Jan 1st 2000. I suspect our friend here was brought up with centimetres adding to his confusion.

A pound of carrots is a lot easier (for me) than 450 grams (ish) though I suspect eventually we will get used to half a kilo etc.

Did you know Imperial pints were bigger then US? 20 fluid ounces compared to 16. Makes that beer go down all the better, ahhhh!

Cheers!

Again, all hats are crushable. Felt is a lot more pliable than you give it credit for. Unless it's as stiff as a PB Custom, you should be able to just pop it back into it's proper shape. :junior: -IJ

The Jaxon will be fine if you beat it up and crush it. It isn't as stiff as the Dorfmans.

Could i have your opinions on this 'Official Lucasfilm' hat please? Is it any good? Is it Crushable? Is it accurate in size? Is it the right coulour? Does the badge leave a large hole in the ribbon when removed?

The Hat is the 'Wool-felt Official Lucasfilm Inidana Jones Hat'

Thanks for allowing me to call on your expertise

Luke

The wool one *****. If you want an official one get the fur felt version.

Accurate in size? :? What does that mean? The pin won't leave a hole in the ribbon.

Oh yeah. In my opinion they are not accurate for a Raiders hat. It might go as a ToD lid.
