Here's an interesting hat for sale, u-know-where. Barbisio is old high quality Italian. Note that this hat is perhaps a rebashed telescope. Image

Looks like it has been sat on its crown.

Note to fedora wearers, When you have a wet hat sit it on its brim and leave the sweatband in. If you set it on the crown you can get a flat spot, and if you turn the sweatband out it can become wrinkly.

The hat in the pic doesn't look to me like it was a porkpie, and if it was it doesn't look like it was wooden blocked into that shape. It looks like it may have been smashed in and stored that way for a while, then someone later gave it a center crease.

That's exactly what Graham told me. When it gets really wet, just lay it flat on a table or something. When dry, like new.

Interesting. That must occur with softer felts, as I've never had any of mine do that in all the years I've worn fedoras, and I either hang them from my hall tree to dry, or set them on their crown. Regards! Michaelson

I have had the top flatten on some of my vintage hats and learned with time. Now only cowboy hats get the upside down treatment from me.

Like I said, I've never experienced that with any of my Akubra's, AB's, or Camptown, but they fall somewhere between the vintage and the western felts. I have never done that with my vintage hats, though. They always get hung on my hat rack to dry when wet, so that's why I've never seen this before. Interesting!
