Quite normal. If you're getting steady cracks out of the thing, and you're not hitting yourself with the whip, you're doing it right.

You WILL get blisters. But, blisters become calluses, so don't worry ;-) If it becomes too painful, then pick up a pair of Wells Lamont work gloves, 'cause you can use those with your Indygear anyway ;-)

Happy crackin' and welcome to the addictive world of whip cracking.

go ahead and use gloves until you build up callouses. The first few times I put in some serious time trying whipcracking, I got blisters on my hand. It's because your hand isn't used to it. I get blisters if I go long periods not playing golf, even though I'm holding the clubs correctly. It's just that the friction is making that part of your hand a little more raw. Put on some gloves and try cracking without gloves by the end of the week. You'll probably be okay by then.

EDIT: I didn't see the last 2 responses til after I posted mine.

Yea,

same thing happens with whipmaking.
I stoped plaiting for a week, and just started up
again today, and I now have 14 blisters on my fingers...
ouch... :x

Blisters are best taking care of by adding a small cut in both "sides". That way the fluid can get out and the new skin below mature much faster.

Take it from an old soldier 8)

I've found some surgical spirit (?rubbing alcohol?) put on blisters helps them harden into tougher skin. Popping blisters gives me the creeps, although from time to time you have to :x

It might. However it is completely painless, and You reduce the "recovery" time quite a bit.

When You say "popping" I read it as cutting, right :?

Wow! What a pleasant discussion I just stumbled across. #-o

Speaking of which, Moloram, I read you're plaiting again...are you taking orders again, as I read on your site you had stopped taking them for a while? Just curious.

Regards! Michaelson
