My new "Federation" is here!
I just received my new Akubra Fedora yesterday and of course I am excited. I have read about the shaping and cutting, my question is, does everyone cut down the sides of the brim? If so does anyone have some diagrams or anything a little more descriptive than what I've read. I know to cut about 1/8" off of the sides and allow the front and back brim to remain the same width. I am somewhat nervous about cutting even though its only a $100.00 hat. Please let me know any helpful hints anyone has.
Thanks Wrightknife

A "rookie" mistake.
Yes, you are correct Minnesota! The difference was so subtle I couldn't tell without measuring. Sorry I clogged up the forum. Now I am looking forward to bashing and shaping when I get back from Destin in July. Thanks for correcting this newbie.

Wrightknife;
Don't you worry about it. There are so many threads around about shapes and styles that your head would spinn around 24-7 unless you had a good fedora on it to keep it in place.
However, some people like to trim the brim a bit in case it looks and feels too big. (Pretty easy to take off the same amount of brim all around not having to worry about the dimensional cut, as the current main site says.)
My advice, as our own Renderking Fisk would say; Wear it a while until you are certain what you want to do with it, and welcome to the madness.
There are also some great tutorials out there in case you would ever want to make the bow a bit more "puffy" or "flying V", depending on what you'd like to go for.
Oh; PICS!, in case you are able to do it.
Regards,
Swindiana

You're not clogging anything up. That's why we're here! Just didn't want to see you cut it before it was too late. I trimmed a fedora once..... once. It wasn't pretty. Let's just say I took "too much" off and that hat isn't worn anymore....Wrightknife wrote: Yes, you are correct Minnesota! The difference was so subtle I couldn't tell without measuring.
