Ok, no one is PMing me...so I'll ask here.

What is this 42 Long sizing jive?

I don't understand how to size a Cotton Wested.

The long sizing is about an inch to 2 inches longer in body length than a standard 42 regular. It's all standard off the rack jacket sizing for these coats. Regards! Michaelson

Yup, the 42 is the chest size. Its just like a suit coat.

I just got an e-mail back from Wested and they said that all of thier jackets are custom made.

So I need to send in my measurements. What measurements do you guys usually send in?

I am a 43 chest, so I told them 44 Long for a bit of room, will that still be tight, or should I go with 45?

What about shoulders and all that?

How do the jackets typically fit? Are they tight?

I would like mine to be a tad loose, I don't want to look like I am a fat guy in a little coat!

If I am a 43 Chest, and I tell them 44, I don't a 48 chest ya know.

I am going to get a Tailor to do my measurements tomorrow so we'll see what I get.

I also am going to get the zipper on the other side because I remember trying to do up my moms jacket once and it felt so stupid

Ok, so I got professionally measured (cost me $10 ) so I am going to send them my pants measurements to really confuse them!

What I don't understand however, is how my hips measurements are 44 inches, but my pants are 36 inches...

That is enough to keep one up and night!

What I ended up doing with mine was going and getting measured for a suit, since I needed one of those anyways. The guy measured around my torso (under my arms), and down my arm from shoulder to cuff.

Then, I figured that I would add on a couple extra inches to the chest measurement, because a suit measurement might mean a coat is too tight. Suits are not supposed to be loose fitting, but coats ought to have a little extra room. So instead of the 40" measurement I got for a suit, I gave wested 42" chest and 22" sleeve. I got my jacket and it fit perfect.

Ya, I have an official 42.5 chest...so I think I'm going to stick with the 44 Long that I ordered.

And my Arm is 25, so I'm going to add an inch so it comes to the thumb.

This is news to me! The cloth jacket has apparently become a better seller than they thought, as the original plan was to only offer these as rack size only! Thanks for sharing that one, CLM! I'll update my information!

Yeah, mine was custom too.

Sorry I didn't catch this thread sooner - not that I'd be able to help. I wasn't sure what that meant either. I just send in my sizes and hope it fits when it gets back!

im definetly getting that jacket.for $100 its an amaizing deal.

unfortunatly ill have to wait till x-mas for my cotton raiders.but i also will buy a pair of wested indy pants and an indy shirt too.so its worth the wait.

If I were you, I'd save and get the leather version. Trust me, if you get leather instead of cotton, you will be so much more happier!

Anyway, I don't know what part of Cali he is in, but what is probable is that it doesn't get cold often enough to warrant leather.

i live in southern california, about 50 miles east of L.A i would love to buy the leather raiders but its 300 bucks i dont have, but i can afford the $100 cotton raiders.and your right so cal isnt the climate for a leather jacket.

I am probably one of the few who actually chose a cotton over the leather simply because I would never wear a leather jacket...not my style.

I have a feeling the cotton is going to look awesome, and I'll throw up some pics so you can see.

definetly put up some pics.ands its not like id have a problem owning a leather jackets its just that they are $300,but ill eventually get a leather raiders but until then i wouldnt be upset with a $100 English Custom Made Raiders Style Cotton Jacket.

BTW, what experiences do you guys have with the cotton USWings Indy Jacket?

I dont know...they're fine looking cotton coats to be sure.

But to me it sort of defeats the purpose of getting an indiana jones jacket.

Maybe not, but I've had complete strangers recogize it for it's design, NOT the material it was made from.

The Wings version is a VERY tough jacket in terms of strength, but a bit heavier in weight than the Wested. It also only comes in the khaki color, and has a leather collar. The sleeves were a bit short on me, but that's always a problem for my long arms. The Wings jacket is also standard off the rack sizing, where, as I've read above, Wested is now custom made.

Wow, it fits perfect in my opinion, it looks sharp, and it feels like a kitten in the springtime...while butterflies dance on the clouds!

But honestly, it is an awesome jacket!!! I'll post some pics...soon....just you wait.

I know this isn't a standard option but has any one thought of asking for a cotton wested with a leather collar?

Would that look weird? You can still smell the leather but not be too hot.

Not sure I've ever really understood the leather collar idea, as that's what Wings does on their version, though it is a color contrast, dakr brown against khaki cotton, and shows up nicely. Their leather is washable too.

Problem with the Wested version is that you couldn't really SEE it was leather, so why bother adding it? They'd have to come up with a washable leather too.

Congrats CRM! I KNEW you'd like it once you received it. Glad it worked out to your satisfaction. Like I said, mine is a constant companion.

Congrats, CLM! I have a cotton Wested and it is perfect as is. It is my second favorite jacket, my lambskin Raiders being the first.

I would not see the need for a leather collar on the cotton jacket.

It might be my current preoccupation with leather! I just thought it would be a nice accent and it's not like it is a new idea. A quick trawl came up with thse 2 examples:

But I do agree you have a point about the washable leather those 2 above are dry clean only. I think the difference in surface texture alone makes a good contrast.

Understood! The Wings version can be tossed into a washing machine, and do not require dry cleaning, by the way.

If the collar were made from a material like lambskin or the like, the natural distressing WOULD make an interesting contrast to the cotton, wouldn't it?

but thanks for the pics. looks like a nice jacket..i said earlier that to get an indy look you have to go with a leather jacket. but seeing it from behind and the side now, it does look like a good alternative if you dont want to lay down the wads of money for a leather one
