I just received an Indy styled "close enough". The Orvis British India Officer's Shirt. The shirt is $59.00 and a great price for a very quality product from Orvis.

The material is described on the website as 13 3/4 oz., 100% cotton. It is indeed. The Shirt is definitely a Spring and Fall shirt. It is not for the warm weather. With this shirt and my lambskin Wested, I am good to about 0 degrees!

The cut of the shirt is a regular fit. Not 'fitted' nor too baggy in the body. I was thinking about the WPG shirts I recently read reviews about when I ordered this shirt. I was hoping to not get a shirt cut too full in the body. This shirt is just right. It has an 'inverted pleat' on back of shirt.

The following picture is a close up of pocket to see the texture and color of the shirt. The material is not a smooth, dress shirt style cotton but a heavier, outdoor style material. Perfect to wear on it's own, or with a lighter weight jacket on cool days.

I had a chance to wear it for the day this past Friday because the weather was cool. I give it an 'A' in terms of style, cut, comfort, and quality. I look forward to the cool weather when I can wear this shirt with my Fed Deluxe and WPG MkVII.

Great review! I've been looking at those shirts for a good while. I think it was Indy French that got one sometime ago. His review was about the same as yours. Top quality all around!

I'm still waiting and hoping Orvis will get those Cavalry twills back in stock this fall. They were as close to "the" pants as I have seen. (well other than Wested, etc)

I've been looking at this shirt in their catalog since last year. I love Orvis' stuff, but I'm afraid the thing is just too heavy for me. Where I live, I'd be lucky to find one or two months out of the year in which to wear it. Still I'm glad you'll be able to get some use out of it. Now if they'd just make it in a lighter (no heavier than 8 oz.) khaki drill, and make the epaulettes in a more normal "british" style, i.e. wider at the base and buttoning closer to the collar, I'd snap it up in heartbeat. I concur with the temperature problem. I tried mine on one day in late April, and frankly, it was too hot even then and just standing around, much less doing anything halfway strenuous. It should certainly put up with just about anything you might do while wearing it.

The epaulets really looked strange to me at first, but I think I've gotten used to the idea.

BTW, has anyone else here looked at the Chatham slacks from Staffords? They're pricey, but I have a pair in the taupe color they advertise. They come in pleated and non-pleated versions, without pocket flaps, and to my eye the color is dead-on, or certainly close enough to pass for those of us not concerned with excrutiating levels of detail.

You know, I love Orvis' clothing! All of their apparel has that vintage outdoor look to them. I wish I could get more of their stuff, but they really don't have lightweight items suitable for Texas. That looks like a fantastic shirt and a great buy.

BTW, I'm sure many of you recognized that the "Inverted pleat" on the back of that shirt is exactly like the one on the back of the What Price Glory shirt.

Texas, their bush poplin is the ticket for guys like us in hot climates. I have one of their bush shirts and its very comfortable in hot weather. Orvis' Field Twill Pants are also nice for hot weather. My bush shirt and field twill pants have become my standard hiking clothes this summer.

Boy, I sure hope they get those Cavalry Twill pnats back this fall. I know there expensive, but I'm sure they'd be some tough pants for cool weather adventures.
