This one looks pretty decent, though not SA:
Pierre Cardin Gladstone Bag
I also found this one, its vintage and looks much closer to what is seen on screen(its a bit pricey too).

Thanks for the comments, gentlemen. It really is a great bag and it goes perfect with your gear. It opens up square, so you can fit a lot of stuff in there. It also looks good with a Brigg brolly thread through the straps.
-Tweed cap and spectacles sold separately.

After posting my last message I realized something. I think I have one of these!
I use on old vintage leather bag for my firearm cleaning stuff. It is leather and opens square on top. My wife has made the "doctor's bag" comment. I am so sure it is a 'Gladstone' style...I will have to check and post pictures if it is the bag.

Well, now you've finally done it HJ. Pushed me to the edge. I know where an original double strapped heavy cowhide bag is currently sitting for $75, and in practically mint condition. It's at the antique store I frequent, and I was waffling on whether or not to get it. Guess what I'M going to be picking up tomorrow!

Ah, a cup of coffee???
Seriously, that bag sounds great. Post pictures, if you can. You can't beat $75 for a nice vintage bag.

This is going to drive the porters and bellboys nuts at the summits!
"Excuse me sir, which is your bag?"
"The Gladstone with the brown fedora on top."
"Uh, exactly
which Gladstone with the brown fedora on top, sir?"
Now I really can't wait for the QM summit!

It was made in Tuscani and is very nice leather with brass fittings. It was $150.00 marked down from $550 or so, if my memory serves me correctly. It is a great bag; perfect for weekends and as a carry-on. I have also thrown in some sword pics for fun. I hope you all enjoy them.
I bet you can find similars when you come in Florence for much less than $150 or 550!! that's crazy LOL.
I think for 100 euro you can find something like that. Maybe less but not sure. I'm not an expert of leather stuff although i live in tuscany

$150.00 USD = $122.00 Euros, so that is about right, my friend. You just concentrate on showing me where the bars are.

Bars?? LOL i know some pubs and i have a friend working in Rivoure bar infront of Uffizi, it's one of the most famous bar in Florence in the 40s style. Very expensive but i can offer you an italian coffe free
That bar was seen also in Hannibal infact my friend working there has also Anthony Hopkins sign!!! Jammy git!
Anyway in a market near Ponte Vecchio you will be able to find things like your bag for much less than 100 euro i believe

What makes you think that's a WWII sword? I've seen katanas from that time period and they're fundamentally different from Hemingway's sword. I'd say HJ's sword is probably from the meiji restoration, or post WWII. :junior: -IJ

What makes you think that's a WWII sword?
Because it is. It is a WWII ear sword with civilian mounts, similar to a SHIN-GUNTO, brought back as spoils of war. The blade is signed, and I have a rubbing of the signature somewhere. Currently, the pin is in there so tightly, I am hesitating to knock it out, afraid to do damage. Also, it has a clearly visible hamon running the full length of the blade.

Ah, I stand corrected then. Still, it doesn't look like any WWII swords I've ever seen. And how did Wayne know it was from the war? :junior: -IJ

Oh maybe i forgot to say that i have a vintage bag too... it belonged to my grandmother, it's like your bag but not leather, it is old fashoned italian tissue. Very good stuff, better than any samsonite or things like that, ideal for little trips of few days.
Oldies but goldies.

Don't worry about it. It's tough to do an accurate appraisal with only a couple of pictures.

Not yet. I decided to do a test this past Friday on a question I had been pondering that gave me excellent final results, but was quite detrimental to the extra monies I had planned for the purchase of the bag. The test? I wanted to know if a Verizon cell phone could survive being run over by a 19hp Sears and Roebuck mulching bladed riding mower. The results were mixed. Yes, it was a successful test...but sadly the phone was reduced to a small bag full of pieces no larger than your fingernail. Ah well, the sacrifices one must make to be a 'Knower of Things'
The bag will be placed in lay-away sometime this week, though.

Ouch! Sorry about your phone, but I am glad about the bag. You can see from the posts above that some of the prices of bags are prohibitive, so $75 is a great deal.
Also, I am glad that your head was not attached to the phone at the time, though I think the results would have been different: I think your noggin' would have snapped that blade into smithereens!

Well, there are SOME things in life that do not really require diligent testing. I mean, for example, anytime you talk about speed, and about the effects of speed on a falling body as being referred to as 'terminal velocity', it means more than just one thing to me, so why test it? (grins)

Actually, there is! Hadn't thought of that before. Our nearest one is in Palm Desert, about an hour away. Poor Yucca Valley currently has only a Wally World to supply all our worldly needs. Word on the street is, though, that we are getting an Applebee's!
Michaelson, thanks for assuming the burden for testing all those cell phones for us! I've done my share of phone bustin' but usually it is more of the Can-This-Phone-Stand-Skidding-Across-A-Parking-Lot-On-It's-Faceplate kind of test.

Great minds think alike, huh?
I've been testing the durability of my phone lately as well, two trials as a matter of fact. After my results came back from the lab, I must say that an LG Picturephone will not stand up against a female English Bulldog.

Those bags are not inexpensive. Peterman made a bag like this some years ago that pops up on eBay from time to time.

Does someone have a picture of the Gladstone bag in the movie. I must keep missing it. A video capture would be nice.
If no picture ,how about a description of where to find it in the movie?
Who knows, maybe I'm watching the wrong movie? We are talking about
The Wizard of Oz?
