After receiving my second pair of Wested pants—the first pair had to be exchanged because I ordered a size too small—my fabulously talented fiancée set about hemming them with a good 4 inch hem. Unfortunately she ran into problems because the pant legs had such a taper that the hem would actually cause the material to pucker at the point where they were stitched. She solved this by opening up each side seam on the hem and spacing the wool so that it would not pucker. The bottom of the pant leg was almost an inch narrower than the spot 4 inches up where one would sew the hem. As a result she had to forgo the military hem—3 inches in the front and 4 in the back (sounds like a mullet )—but the finished product is quite nice. I hope to post pictures of me in all my gear this weekend.
Has anyone else had this problem, or is it that these Wested pants are more tapered than they should be?
