I know that the new style for the WL 1130 glove has a reinforced palm. Has anyone considered taking a knife and cutting the stitches that hold the reinforcemnt on the palm and removing it? I looked at them today in Wal Mart and it looks like it could be done.

By the way Home Depot has some stanley glovs in the yellowish tint and in goatskin. very supple when compared to the cowhide.

I have a pair of those, and I thought about doing the same.

The only tricky part that I can foresee is where the palm is, for lack of a better term, sandwiched between the two glove halves.

Update: I tried it out on the same model that you are talking about (which I bought 3 pairs of when they were on sale for 3 bucks at walley world) that you're talking about and it worked alright, now if I can find a way to plug up the holes left by the stiches.

Are the holes really obvious? Do they really detract from the glove? Since they are on the palm and will get distressed one way or another would they tend to be masked by the dirt?

They are about as obvious as the holes on the stitching of the "keystone" thumb, and they don't look too bad.

I'm sure with a little dirt like you said, they'd be fine.

I need a good pair of work gloves and wanted to get as accurate as possible as well. The WL's have a great reputation, but alas, only the new ones are available. I saw a generic pair at Target tonight and saw some stanley's at home depot, but the wells lamonts are I think an all around better glove. I think I will take the plunge and remove the reinforcement on the palm

If you're going to be using them as work gloves, I don't know if they will hold up very well, I mean, they are full of tiny holes.

I bought a pair just like this, used a razor blade to start removing the stiches, then i carefully pulled the stiching out and sliced off the leather flap as close to the glove seam as possible. I think they look great, and the holes can hardly be seen after a little use.
