Hey,

So I have been thinking about getting me a Cotton Raiders Jacket for a while now, but I was wondering a few things.

Does anyone know if you can get a "long" version? I'm not a big fan of jackets that end at the waist, with my body type and the way I wear my shirts (untucked) I look like a fat guy wearing a big colorfull innertube.

How much longer is the long version?

What is the best way to measure for a Wested? Are there any parts I should over compensate for (ahem) such as longer arms, or something of the sort?

Anything I should know before I actually do order one, such as hidden costs, jacket styles, and such?

Unless Peter has changed things, the cotton Indy is pretty much off the rack sizing. The only changes I've noted have been the choice of collar materials. I've ordered and received 3 to date, and they've all been pretty much standard patterning from the leather Wested Raiders jacket. I highly recommend you contact Peter directly and toss this around, as to date he's stayed pretty firm in custom leather work, but standard sizing in cotton jacket orders. Regards! Michaelson

I would reccomend looking at other options also,
I have a cotton wested, and 3 months into wearing it the entire left cargo pocket got pulled off, after I got i caught on a door handle. It wasent even very hard. Just know you need to be careful with it. I guess it cant stand up to the rigors of highschool. If i were to get another light wheight jacket, i would probably go with a filson Cover cloth bomber jacket.

Man, M, you're hard on your stuff. Come to think of it, the only jacket I had survive HS was a Korean War B15 flight jacket my grandfather gave me, so it had to be mil spec to make the grade!
I've had mine since they came out, and have had absolutely NO problems to date, and I put mine through the paces too! No comparison to ANYTHING Filson makes, but then, they're not SUPPOSED to be! I mean, if that were the case, I'm a Carhart fan myself! My wife and daughter have the other two cotton Wested's in my family, and same story with theirs.
Guess it's just different experiences for different folks!

It says you can get it in regular, or long....but how longs a long?

What other options are you talking? Did you get a long or short version, and how long or short is it?

What I mean is...where do the d-rings sit, where does the bottom end?

I am really hard on my stuff.
I just needed something that would take all I would throw at it and I guess a wested cotton indy is not what i was looking for. What happned was, I stepped up to the wall, to move out of the way, and then stepped backward, and the side entry pocket was stuck on a door handle, thus, It just tore right off. Im not saying dont consider a wested, I have a leather and cotton jacket of theirs, and so far the pull strap on the leather one has only come off one time, so they make pretty good stuff

The options he was referring to were other manufacturers, CL.

As Moloram says, they're more of a dress jacket in terms of strength, and not something you'll roll down the hill in, but for the urban adventurer, they're top drawer.

I don't know what you're currently doing for sizing now, but think of how you already handle off the rack sized jackets. As an example, I can comfortably wear a size 42R, but the sleeves are ALWAYS 2 to 3 inches to short. I compensate by getting a size 44R to give me that added sleeve length, living with the extra body sizing that's been added by the upsizing. I've found it's exactly the same way with the cotton Wested. With the added 2 inches in length for a long, the bottom should be around the bottom of your back pants pocket, and the straps around your belt line.

Ya, but like who? Are there others offering this type?

In an Indy jacket, only one, and that's U. S. Wings. Their's is heavier weight cotton, machine washable, but their collar comes as leather, and it's khaki color instead of the dark brown. Regards! Michaelson

Sweet! I also like the Filson one too, but I hate the cuffs! They remind me of this old blue jacket I had in like 1983 or something.

The Us Wings one isn't all that bad, the color and collar are cheesy in my opinion. And the price is more than the Wested I think.

Is the Cotton Wested machine washable?

The us wings jacket is 98$ right now.
I paid 140$ for my cotton at the middle of last year,
and they did not let me do any mods at all on it.

WELLLLL, yes and no. It says dry clean only inside, but Peter has said that if you machine wash it, then hang it up to air dry (no tumble dry), it will be ok. I haven't tried it myself, though, so take that for face value. Regards! Michaelson

I believe ghostassisn, or whatever his name was, cant get the correct spelling at this moment, washed his cotton exactly that way, and in the end there was a problem with the liner sagging into the zipper or something like that.

It says on the Wested website that the cotton is, $85 + $25.

I like the cotton one because you can wear it and it kinda has that "skater/punk/retro" look to it and it's not so Indy. I could get away with wearing it with jeans, or some dickies and not look like a super nerd!

Does anyone have any pics of them wearing thier cotton wested? I have one finger on the credit card as we speak, but it would be cool to see a few before ordering.

Hahaha. This surprise Emoticon was specifically for the "I was never a fan of the leather jacket" comment. The look, the fit, the drape, the SMELL of a Wested Leather Indy Jacket. Heck, even if you do not wear it, just hang it up, stare at it for a couple of hours each day and be thrilled that you have a jacket custom made for you by the man who made the original jackets for the movies. Did I mention the smell of the leather

You are right to be "about the hat" but the jacket is certainly next in making the Indy look. Not being a fan of the jacket is almost sacreligious. By the way color can make or break the look of a leather jacket. Since you had a multi-colored jacket, that could be the reason you never liked the way it looked on you. I had purchased two jackets before at a leather factory outlet closeout sale. Exactly the same except for color. One looked pretty cool and the other looked absolutely hideous on me. For some reason, I think I still have it too. It was burgundy (Hey, it was the 70's) with a snap off fur collar and removable liner.

What size are you? I will send you one of my Wested jackets to try on and see what you think before ordering. Everybody HAS to love the Indy jacket. It is like a rule or something

Awww thats sweet! I really like the look of the leather jacket, (that's why I want a cotton one) but I'm just not a leather guy.

A lot of it has to do with my "style." You see, I dress pretty young (for my old age) and so for me a leather jacket would be a waste. To have one to stare at would be a big waste of $500!!

I even thought....well maybe for camping/hiking...but then I have my MEC gear that I use and it's much lighter than a leather jacket would be, and when you are concerned about weight...

No, I don't, but I don't wear a suit and tie to work, or wear turtle necks. Dressing young means I dress casual. I have jeans, t-shirts, and the like....
