Adventurebuilt - intitials Punched in leather sweat band
With the Adventurebuit, Fedora, You can have your Initials punched into the leather sweat band. Fedora has a Vintage punch to do your Initials.
This is very good! Every where were you go, you will always know which fedora is yours. If it is taken, you have proof, it is yours!! Your Initials are punched in the sweat Band! This is very cool!
Thanks Fedora, for the extra Insurance!!
An ounce of prevention is better than loosing your Hat!!

That's a good question. I'm having my initials punched into my hat to give it that ultimate bit of personalization. That, and so that after I die my estate will be able to make big money auctioning off a genuine handmade fedora (by Fedora) that was owned by me. (you know, sort of like having a hat that was worn by Spencer Tracey! ).Canyon wrote:Fedora, out of curiousity, when I get mine, are you able to put the name 'Canyon' into the sweatband or just initials?
Seriously, I'm thinking that Fedora may only be able to do initials. The only two ways of monogramming hats that I've ever seen were by pressing letters in gold leaf and punching holes through the leather that formed the individual characters, in the same way the letters "USN" are punched into the windflap on G1 flight jackets. And the operative word in Fedora's description of the service seems to be "punched." Besides, the tool that holds the dies may not be big enough to hold more than three.
Still, it would be great if he could clarify this for us.
Cheers!

If I remember correctly, I think Fedora told me that he could do my name instead of initials, but the size of the letters would not change, so it would go half way around the hat. So, he could do "Canyon" and that would not be too bad. I guess if you put your whole name, you could have the whole sweatband ventilated. I decided to just do my initials.

Oh, so they are punched all the way through?
Adam did a nice job on my whipholder by just "grooving" my name in there.
PIC It is clearer in real life than what is seen in the pic. Maybe this could be an option for Fedora though?

I agree with you. However, I have seen someone selling a used hat that had the sellers initials in the sweatband. In that case, I don't think that it is a very good sales tool. I can't say that I would want a hat with someone else's initials in it, even if I got the hat for a really good price.
Of course, you could always have a new sweatband put in, but now you have cut into that bargain price you gave for the hat. You might as well have gotten a new hat from Fedora.
I guess the point I am trying to make is, if someone is the type that buys stuff and keeps it awhile and then wants to sell it and get something new, then they should think twice about having their initials put in a hat. I think it just makes a hat harder to resell. Once I buy something, I pretty much keep it for ever, so it is a great idea for me.
Yeah, who would ever sell an AB anyways? Whatcha gonna replace it with, one of those disposable hats? Seriously, I am proud of that initial punching device. I know of only two other hatters that own one, and when I mentioned this device to an really old hatter out west, he had never seen one!!!!!!!! Art Fawcett found 2 of these devices, and bought them both. He sold me one of them for what he had in it. 100 bucks. Since then, I have had two offers to sell. One was for 750.00 and the other was 2500.00.(I think, but over 2 grand at any rate) It is not for sale. They are very rare, and were used by custom hatters back in the old days. Here she is. Thats like saying you wouldn't buy used hockey equiptment because the guy wrote his name in pen on the inside of the shoulder pads. The thing with AB is that they are made for you, custom made for your head. If you are buying a custom fedora second hand, you have to expect it's not going to be perfect for you.I agree with you. I personally really like the JW in my hat. It's cool cause when people are like, "Shut up that is custom!" I show them the Initials and they answer with, "So, you could have put that in there!" but really they know their jealousy has taken over and they want to be me, cause I'm so awesome!
In a short while, you will see my testamonials (again...*cough*) and some pics of my new AB's, and I'll show you how cool the initials are!

Crazylegsmurhy, I have JWP in my Adventurebilt. What's the JW stand for ( if you don't mind me asking)?

You have a good point. For me personally, I buy almost nothing used. So for me, the initials are real cool. And, maybe these people that buy and sell a lot don't buy with the intention of selling the item. For what ever reason, they change their mind quite often.crazylegsmurphy wrote:Thats like saying you wouldn't buy used hockey equiptment because the guy wrote his name in pen on the inside of the shoulder pads. Maybe they never would make a decision while buying the hat because of how it would affect their resell value. Like I said, I don't usually buy used items and don't have much experience at it.
Now, your used hockey equipment analogy is not a good one for me. All of the used hockey equipment that I have came from NHL players. In this instance, it would be cool if they put their names in it but they usually just put their number with a permanent marker. On some of the items, such as sticks and gloves, their names are sometimes printed on the item. I do have a lot of their autographs on sticks. I have a bunch of sticks that are not autographed that I use when I play. I did get a brand new pair of pants from the Washington Capitals that still had the tags on them and had never been used. Whoops, sorry that I got so OT.

It is indeed. It still has some of the details of fine sword: the blade is signed, the handle is eel skin, but most of it, including parts of the tsuba were machined. It has a very nice balance. There is another picture available here, if you are interested. Thanks for noticing.taikonaut wrote:Hemingway Jones, I just happen to look at your pics in the photo hosting site, is that a WW2 Japanese sword you are weilding?
There can be only one.

HJ, I was browsing your sight and found this pic:

The description says that you found this brown panama hat at a hat shop on your vacation. Man, what are the chances you'd find one that was brown and looked Indyish. Very nice!

Thanks Holly! I appreciate that. I was very happy to find this shop. It was in Old San Juan. They had it in White, a darker brown, and the color I chose, which I think was called “tobacco.” It was a cool souvenir to bring home.Indiana Texas-girl wrote:HJ, I was browsing your sight and found this pic:

I suppose I could take it apart and take a photo. Would you like to PM me your email address?taikonaut wrote:Actually I like to see the inscription on the tang of the sword, can you provide a pic of this?
Hemingway Jones, I pm you.
I know its off topic but I dont understand why a Japanes esword is part of the Indy gear arsenal?
I have been a collector of antique swords for many years and have come across many `holy grails' of the sword world. I even had the rare privelage under invitation by the head curator to appraise some priceless Samurai swords at the British Museum in one of their back rooms, the kind of stuff they dont exhibits to the public. You think the "Masamune" in the Highlander film was a myth? Well think again.

All kidding aside, thank you. I will send you those pics when I can, but I know that my sword, which I love dearly, is no priceless artifact: parts have been machined and the scabbard, for lack of the appropriate word or the motivation to look it up right now, has been refinished, and poorly. But I will never sell it. It was given to me by a dear friend.
Must admit never seen a Hanzo blade, if there is one its made in Taiwan like all the other Ninja stuff.
I have held and examined a presentation Japanese sword given to Adolf Hitler by Japan to congratulate him becomming the supreme leader of the Third Reich and one would assume its signify the alliance or the Pact of Steel and of great historical important. It quit possible it was rescued (or stolen) from Hitler's bunker or treasure house by US troops along with the Lance but this sword was quickly forgotten from history after the War until recently thanks to lots of detecive work and research through historical record. Its a long story and I would not reveal who owns this sword under request but several people were quietly pursuing this relic for a number of years even literary down to the last minute in 3 different continents trying to bluff there way into securing it.
