Now I hope not to be in front of a firing squad after this, but I have been toying with this idea for quite sometime now and I can't shake it out of my head, so I turn where I can get all of my Indy-related problems out--COW .

Could it be possible that the color of Indy's gloves were either two-tone (brown on top & yellow at the palm) or brown and the yellow that we see is from the dirt and sand from the set? I only ask because in the scene where the Well Of Souls is revealed (the famous "Snakes..." line), there is a good shot of Indy's gloves and the fingers seem to be brown leather--not distressing. After Indy and Marion escape the WoS, they are covered in dust and sand and his clothes are almost all yellow (especailly his pants). I have included the link to Todd's costumes' glove page (I hope you don't mind ) and you can see for yourself what I'm talking about (well I hope anyway, lol).

Like I said, the dirt and dust makes everything else appear yellowish, so why not the gloves? And let's not forget that they used more than one of everything so, again, why not gloves?

Honestly, I think they were one solid color. I've owned many pairs of leather work gloves and it's really interesting some of the odd colorations they'll pick up over time. Sand and Fuller's Earth can make things look very light. Just take a look at his gray Wested in the truck chase And I've heard those gloves were not really part of the outfit, they were borrowed from a grip on set. Since they were not carefully distressed 'movie-style' but rather were actually used to do real work, who knows what they may have been exposed to?

I know that they were an after thought, but it still seems to me as if they were brown rather than yellow. Gloves can have that dramatic of a color change over time?

I always find it interesting - to me it looks liek they took the gloves and distressed them on top but not so much on the palms which is exactly the REVERSE of how they would distress in reality.

Like I said, talk about scrutiny . Two-tone was not my original idea. What would be the point of a two-toned glove (as previously mentioned)? I still think that the gloves were brown then distressed to the yellowish color.

I don't think that they were two tone.. They were just a dirty yellow or tan work glove. Its just the distressing, be it natural or not that makes them look that way. The back may appear to be brown from sweat stains. I know I've sweated through my work gloves before.

Just a newbie to COW, but might have some input on the gloves. They're probably standard deerskin "roping" gloves. (At least that's what we call them) They start out yellow and then turn all kinds of interesting colors depending on what you subject them to. There's a good picture of a pair of ropers on the Aerostich motorcycle site (www.aerostich.com).

A good pair of ropers is a thing of beauty.

I'd say that they were just a standard work glove. Possibly ropers or just what I've heard called driving gloves. (Ropers without the reinforcement on the palms)

As for praticality I don't like deerskin for a work glove. I have a pair of the ropers your talking about jeff I use as a repelling glove. The deerskin doesn't hold up well to the wear from rope and rock.

I mispoke (typed?) when I said "deerskin"... I meant to say ELKskin which is much stronger and better suited for abuse than deerskin.

Don't worry, we all mis type from time to time. The elkskin does make for some good gloves. But its pretty expensive though.
