Here are some stupid questions about the Adventurebilt fedora.
How much abuse can the AB take?
How do you get dust and dog fur off? (It has a lot.)
How much rain will taper an Adventurebilt? (Sometimes we get really hard rain down here.)

I can't realy say how much abuse it will take because I have not owned mine for very long. To get dust lint and animal hair off , try a lint roller. I think if you just let it dry by natually it should be alright. I'm sure someome else who knows better will jump in and be more of a help maybe Fedora himself.

1.) A crapload. Some of the things I have done to mine: Sat on it multiple times, scrunched it up into a ball and popped it back out again, stepped on it, etc. It's fine. So..a crapload.
2.) I use a lint roller.
3.) That I can't answer, because my AB hasn't gotten that wet.

Regarding the first question, I can't add much to what Strider wrote. If it's the pure beaver version it can take quite some. Plus you can always have it cleaned and reblocked.
2nd. question: I would use a hat brush over a lint roller.
3rd. question: Each AB it treated with a hefty load of water repellent and it takes quite some rain to get through that coat. IF that happens, let the hat dry as slow as possible and then give it a good coat of Scotchgard or alike and you'll be fine. Scotchgarding the hat every now and then, DOES help a lot to keep it in shape.

Marc

Marc why do you like a hat brush over the lint roller?

A lint roller will take the dog hairs and also the dust on the surface, but once you REALLY get it dusty - like after a jeep safary throughout the mountains of the Rep. of Turkey in dry weather with lots of really fine dust and sand
- it won't do. Than you have the dust "in" the felt (only a fraction of a mm, but still) and the lint roller won't do, no matter how hard you push. The fine hair tips of a real hat brush (they only cost a few buck, so don't take the hard brush from the bathroom - you'd destroy the nap after some time) can reach those small places between the fibers. Even the densest and smoothest beaver felt has these small places.

Marc

I know that Fedora keeps the hat bodies on the block for a very long time, so it should take quite a bit to taper one. You would really have to go to town with excessive steam on it to do so. So, I wouldn't worry about taper. Also, these hats are made in Mississippi, so they're designed to handle rain and humidity.
I say, wear it and enjoy it. When it eventually gets too dirty or starts to wilt in any way, send it back to Steve for a reblock. It will be good as new.

Sorry for my stupid question but is it possible that the hat could be ruined, change colour, change shape or something like that after using scotchgard on it?
I ask because when i will order my hat i will ask to scotchdargd it and i would like to be sure it wont change the hat in any way
Thanks

I have never heard of Scotchguarding damaging hat felt in any way, though it is always best to voice any concerns you have to Fedora. I know that he treats his hats with Scothguard, so That should answer your question.

The trick is not to soak the felt with Scotchgard. I'm extremely paranoid of taper even though I can reblock the hat myself, but than again that is a lot of work. So, work in thin layers. Give it a thin coat of Scotchgard, let it dry and repeat. If you'd soak the crown in Scotchgard it'll have the same effects as water, so don't.

Also, use the Scotchgard in the red can. Nobody seems to know is the green and orange cans are safe.

A light misting is all that is required for Scotchgarding of the AB's, or most any hat. Regards. Michaelson

Thanks for your answers. At least I know my Adventurebilt wont taper until awhile, and that it can take a beating, and how to get all of the dust and fur off.

I have a question.
Were do you hang your hats.? I should be getting my AB soon, so I want to know were's the best place to put it, when i'ts not on my head? Hat Trees.?

I hang mine over my bed post. Its a nice round knob about 2-1/2" in diameter. It holds my hat perfect and doesn't distort the crown or brim in anyway.

Ha right, I was going to hang mine the same.
I still might get a hat stand, of some kind though.

A hat stand is probably the best way to go, though mine rests on a bannister at the top of the stairs into our apartment. A couple jackets hang underneath the hat, so it gets a little extra support. Still, I'd go with a good hat rack/hat tree if you can find a nice one.

yeah bink, I will most probably do that, I've seen a few of them on ebay.

You may be able to find a decent hat stand at Wal Mart or a local home store for a reasonable amount. Or, if you have the money and want the style, you could always check out antique stores.

Indeed... you cant stop looking at it and the lightsabers shock your eyes all the time
btw didnt we have a size restriction for avatars

by Richard~Buxton
Well, as for the size restriction, I've seen some people with some pretty big avatars. So I didn't think it would be a problem, If it's cursing blindness though I will take it down.

Re the lint roller, the makers of really expensive clothes say that you should always use a brush rather than a lint roller, as the adhesives are bad for the material. I don't know if that aplies to hats, but it makes sense.

Nah cryptid I was askin cuz it seemed rare for me that a forum oes not have size restriction, dont worry and its a very cool one i must say

There is, but his is just a little wider than usual, so there's not been a problem that I'm aware of. Neat avitar, by the way!!! Regards! Michaelson

Good point Schwammy!
Plus you might pull out some single hairs from the surface of the felt with a lint roller.

Marc
