Another MkVII and another Newbie says hi

Hi Folks!

OK, it all started with repurchasing some of my favorite video's on DVD, which included the remastered Indiana Jones trilogy. Watching the films again re-inflamed my childhood Indy obsession and inspired me to do a Google on 'Indiana Jones Jacket'.... Well, that led me here (where I discovered a unique rabble of folk equally obsessed as myself) and before I could say 'mid-life-crisis' I had ordered a MkVII bag from SoF and a strap, some gloves and a couple of web belts from Tod's Costumes. I've promised myself a Wested jacket for my birthday (December) if I can shift my 'spare tyre' at the gym before then [-o<

Well, I just wanted to say hello and here's a pic of my SoF bag and strap. I'm very happy with it and have found it has a nice totemic effect of bringing back those childhood feelings of adventure and mystery when I venture out wearing it.

Peace.
Andy

Welcome, Andy!

I must say, that's an excellent bag! And you found it on SoF!? Nice and minty... looks great together with the strap!

A Wested in the pipeline, eh? Nice... and next you'll start craving an Adventurebilt - the symptoms are familiar... we've all been there...

Again, welcome! Stay a while and contribute to the madness!

Thanks Mat. I'm planning to get down to Wested to get measured up around November. I couldn't believe my luck when I found they were so close to London. I'll take plenty of pics when I go. My kids are also fans of the movies so will be thrilled to spend a day meeting the guys who made the original jackets.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.

Yes, I was suprised about the good condition of the Mk VII considering it was the £30 one rather than the unissued £50. SoF did take a long time to deliver though, more than a week before they sent it out.

I tentatively gave it a hand wash to get rid of the musty smell and it washed up fine. The marking survived the wash fine and read 'M & Co. 1942'.

Welcome my friend! :D

Thats a great looking bag! I really like the color. Some of the bags I've seem are too green for my liking.

Cyber, welcome to Club Obi Wan! Always great to have new people here, and lately it seems that the UK fan base is growing around here.

BTW, I really like the look of your bag and strap. :D

Hi Sakis,

SoF is 'Soldier of Fortune', a shop based in Wales who sell various army goods. You can find their site at: http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/ click into the re-enactors section and choose British WWII > Equipment > Field Equipment. The decent MkVII bags are all on the last page of three which you can click to via a very tiny text link at the bottom of the page. Looking at it just now it seems that all the £30 ones have gone but they have some great looking unissued ones for £50, or some really knackered looking ones for £5.

Hey Canyon, glad I'm not the only Brit here! :D What with the movies being reshown on TV over the last 3 weekends maybe we will see more of us checking in...

Welcome Cyber! :)

It all starts with the bag, after that you won't be satisfied till you have the entire collection of gear.

All of the back pockets in my pants are full of burn holes and my wallet is screaming at me to feed it already and I haven't even been at this for a month. :P

Hi Pagey, Cryptid, Zach, VP, Skippy, ob1al, et al.

Yup, I was very pleased to find that I could get hold of a jacket over here. I'm looking forward to getting measured up at Wested (I'm on the way with shifting that spare tire), ordering any kind of clothing over the web is a bit nerve wracking since I'm usually 'cheap and cheerful' when it comes to clothes.

Canyon: those pics look great. I can imagine the reaction of people seeing a rabble of Indy clones charging around the British Museum

What can you say, the guy has style! :)
