As summer approaches in the Northern hemisphere an Indygear fan's thoughts turn to temperature appropriate gear. I've been lusting after a pair of Aldens for several years, and having just received a bonus at work I'm considering pulling the trigger. However it gets very hot and humid in my area during the summer and I'm imagining a pair of heavy boots being uncomfortable in summer weather. There's been a lot of talk of the general comfort provided by Alden's, but I haven't heard anything about how they do in the heat. Anyone care to share their experiences?

I wear them year round. Sometimes my feet feel hot in them but then I ignore that and continue to wear them. As far as weight, they will feel heavy at first, but like anything new, you will get used to them and actually find yourself comparing all your other footwear to your Aldens. Eventually you will prefer your Aldens to anything else in your footwear collection (unless this is exclusive to me and my experience). I've been wearing Aldens since 1990 and although I have other brands of footwear, I prefer the Aldens to all else even in summer and I'll wear them with shorts!

The Swedish summer is quite Aldenesque. While maybe not my first choice of beachwear, they're cool in rather hot temperatures. After all, they are dress boots, and are made of accordingly thin materials.

On the other hand, the Alden is definitively not a winter shoe, at least not where real winter is experienced. The thin lining does not help much, and the smooth soles do not provide the necessary traction for snow and ice...

The answer? Foot powder in the morning on your feet, and the Aldens will be cool and comfortable all day, no matter how hot it gets. This from personal experience with hot, humid Southern summers. High regards! Michaelson
