Tire kickin' for a new whip

I’m looking to purchase a new whip soon. My first whip was probably around 25 years ago. I pretty much wore that one out cracking it so much and my next one lasted about two weeks before falling apart. I kind of fell out of it for a while and a couple of years ago (after much lurking on COW) bought a beautiful whip by Joe Strain. It was easy to crack and was amazed how quick it was to pick up where I was before. Of course that was still very basic.

Bottom line is I’m looking to add a whip. I’m looking at getting into target cutting and multiple cracks and such and will go for a much shorter whip than my present one. What I wanted to know was; what should I consider for handle length and what might be a good DVD for learning on? I don’t want something too basic like “This is a whip. This...is the handle…of the whip.” Then again I don’t want to get lost in it either. So any advice would be appreciated.

If you are looking for a target whip, and one that does multiple cracking, go for an Australian style bullwhip, or a well-made stock whip as a seconde choice. The bullwhip will be better for target work, but the stock whip is better for multiple cracking. My opinion, period, end of story.

Get a longer handle, such as 10 or more inches in the bullwhip. Lengths for each type? 7 foot bullwhip, or a 6 foot stock whip.

I agree with Paul Stenhouse about handle length for multiple cracking. I love lashing out with a bullwhip, but stockwhips or similar hybrids are for the multiple cracking routines ....

Regarding DVDs, Mike Murphy has Fundamenta's of Whipcracking Techniques which will take you about as far as you'd ever imagine.

Snap crackle pop!!! :whip:
