Well, my hat was turned into goo after a nice rain. I was wondering where I could get those clear plastic hat covers. Would they fit? I have seen police use them before, I know it is not indy like, but reblocking and rebashing isn't either.

Hi Grant.
You may want to look into Scotchgard or B&L water-resistant spray rather than put a plastic cover on your hat. If you do not mind me asking, what brand is your hat?

It is, or was, a BeaverBrand (Keppler). I knew this would happen-did not know that the rain was coming and I would get lost outside-what an adventure! The worst part-I was so, so happy with it

I've been told that those plastic covers are one of the worst thing you can put on a hat. I gave my AB a coat of Scotchgard like Fedora recommended. I haven't been able to test it yet though.

In the meantime, you may want to touch bases with Fedora and see if he can reblock your Keppler for you. THEN waterproof it, or ask him to. Regards. Michaelson

I bought one a couple of years ago at a western wear store, they are pretty cheap. I just wanted to see how it works. On a floppy fedora they make the brim curl up, on a stiffer felt they work fine. They just look funky, so be prepared to be teased if you wear one. One person refered to it as a hat condom.

how well can a hat be waterproofed?

I've used the Scout Rain and Stain waterproofing on my hat with very good
sucess here in Oregon...and you know how it never rains in Oregon.

I've only used the Scotchgard in the red can. Its good but its not designed to really water proof. Its designed to protect from spills and stains. Does anyone know if the green can (heavy duty water repellent) or the orange can (ultra water repellent) is safe to use? I wasn't sure what the silicone would to the felt.
