Question about the Swaine Adeney Brigg Poet...

Post by 3thoubucks »

Image Is this Swaine Adeney Brigg "Poet" bash just hand formed or block formed? That is, if you pop this bash out, are there stretched out permanent scars from a block formed bash? I think I might have been on the right track when I bought a Miller with this bash, but it had too much taper to work into a Raiders hat.. Maybe I'll experiment with this hat next. I'm still thinking the Raiders hat was block bashed. I've seen too many hats around here where the peak of the front pinch is just a rounded blob of a corner. A block formed bash could give you a real corner, without having to steam one in. Was Nadoolman into steaming fur felt? I doubt it... and I doubt Swales was involved in turning the hat, so where did the sharp distinct corner in the turned Raiders hat come from? (someone will say, - "really thin super shapeable super high quality felt" ..we shall see... ) This pic is from the SAB site http://www.swaineadeneybrigg.net/produc ... asp?id=257

When I went to the shop last month, they were all open crowned, but the block wasn't completely untapered itself.
